The Love Island star who left after a week on the show has revealed he suffered from stress-induced psychosis.
Niall Aslam was a fan favourite during the first week of the fourth series and viewers loved his one-liners.
But he left due to ‘personal reason’, later stating he has Asperger Syndrome.
While the reality star does have Asperger’s, he has now revealed he went into a psychiatric hospital for two weeks after suffering from hallucinations and lost a grasp on reality.
He shared the news in an Instagram video, reports the Metro.
He said: “I came out and talked about my Asperger’s and I was diagnosed at 10 years old, and that was basically the reason I left Love Island.

“But what actually happened to me, I ended up watching Love Island in a psychiatric hospital in London, the Nightingale Hospital in London to be exact.
“What I later found out is that I had something called stress-induced psychosis… I did not know what that was. Essentially what it is, you get so overwhelmed that you lose touch with reality.
“You kind of hallucinate, you don’t know what’s going on, you’re not fully aware of your surroundings, you’re not safe, you need other people to look after you.”

He continued: “It takes quite a lot of time to come down from that, but when you come down from it you really come down, you go into a really deep depression.
“I was at the hospital for two weeks but in my head I wasn’t fully aware of what was going on, I thought it was because of my Asperger’s.”
After leaving the villa, Niall did very few interviews, which he says was due to his medication slurring his speech.

He said going ‘cold turkey’ off the meds was ‘horrible’.
He added it took a long time to recover fully from it because of the Love Island situation.
The reality star said he is speaking out on his mental health journey and the reason why he left Love Island is to help people open up about their own mental health, and to remind them to check in on their friends.
He wrote: “If it could help someone else then its something I should do.”
The former student and construction worker from Coventry was praised by fans for being open about his journey and mental health.
He returned to TV in 2019, appearing on Georgia Steel’s ex on the US series, Ex on the Beach: Peak of Love.
