Piers Morgan has installed a panic button by his bedside after receiving death threats from trolls, his wife Celia Walden has revealed.
After a number of keyboard warriors sent ominous threats to the Good Morning Britain presenter, 55, he was compelled to contact the police, fearing for the safety of his family.
His wife, Celia, 45, revealed the police are tracking the IP address of a troll who sent him a death threat, with a security engineer fitting a panic button in their bedroom.
In a piece written for the Telegraph, the mum-of-one highlighted the grave impact trolling can have, describing the “criminal” messages sent to her husband.
Recalling a recent police visit, Celia wrote: “My husband had contacted them after receiving death threats on Twitter and Instagram the previous weekend.”

The threats came after Piers was pictured going for a walk with his eldest son, Spencer Morgan, 27, through London’s Holland Park.
Under the photo, Celia recalled one social media user had written: “@Piersmorgan your a marked man, calling the police, big tech or beefing up your security isn’t going to stop us getting to you, this isn’t a threat Piers it’s a promise, your getting killed. [sic[]”
Piers decided to contact the police over the “straightforwardly criminal” messages, as they involved his family.

Celia, who is a published author and former gossip columnist, branded the trolls as “human vermin” who “spread poison” and “fear” in others.
The writer, who shares her daughter Elise, nine, with husband Piers, admitted she felt a “trembly feeling” in her stomach when she realised the severity of the threats.
She wrote; “It was only when I was told my phone number would be listed with a ‘rapid response’ unit specialising in death threats, and a security engineer came to install a panic button by our bed that could have the police there within four minutes, that a trembly feeling started up in my stomach.”

Piers also spoke out against the death threats, pointing out the sickening messages had “crossed a line”.
On Monday’s Good Morning Britain, the outspoken ITV star confirmed he’d contacted the police over the messages, investigating the issue with the help of the authorities.
“Button by our bed that could have the police there within four minutes, that a trembly feeling started up in my stomach
He said: “You can say what you want, you can have opinions, but you’re not allowed to issue death threats to people.
“So I called the police, the police came around, took it very seriously, thank you to the police [who are] investigating this.”
Piers was transparent about the lengths he had gone to, adding: “I also got in touch with Facebook, I know some top people there… and I said ‘look, it’s unacceptable’ and they’ve been cooperating as well.”
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays at 6am on ITV
