Harry Potter star Emma Watson 'secretly retires from acting aged 30'

Emma Watson has reportedly decided to take a break from acting, hanging up her boots at the young age of 30.

The screen star, who is perhaps best known for playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise, is apparently no longer taking on “new commitments” as an actor.

Emma’s agent said the Perks Of Being A Wallflower lead is enjoying a “dormant” career with no plans for future acting roles, according to Daily Mail.

Instead, the British starlet is spending time with her longterm beau Leo Robinton, with the pair living together in Los Angeles.

The publication’s source claims: “Emma has gone underground, she is settling down with Leo. They’re laying low. Maybe she wants a family.”

Daily Star has contacted Emma’s reps for comment.

Originally born in France, but raised in Oxfordshire, Emma showed an interest in acting from an early age, learning singing, dancing, and acting at a local theatre school.

She skyrocketed to fame at the age of nine, when she was cast as Hermione in the film adaptation of J K Rowling’s hit collection of fantasy novels.

Starring alongside Rupert Grint and Daniel Radcliffe, the three youngsters became some of the most famous Brit actors of their time, making millions from the series.

Emma did voice work in Ballet Shoes and The Tale of Despereaux, outside of her Harry Potter role, and enjoyed lead roles in films like Beauty and the Beast and The Circle.

More recently, she played Meg in Greta Gerwig’s Little Women, with the film earning major critical acclaim with six Academy Award nominations.

Last year, in an interview with British Vogue, Emma revealed she was interested in pursuing more activism in the future, alluding to a changing direction in her career.

She said: “Having been so public in making films and being so active on social [media] in my activism, I am curious to embrace a role where I work to amplify more voices, to continue to learn from those with different experiences.”

Emma also shared her plans to enjoy “fewer red carpets and more conference meetings” in the years to come.

Her work as an activist has been a constant in her career, having been appointed the UN Women Goodwill ambassador in 2014.

A feminist, Emma has campaigned for equal rights for women and has also shown her support for the Black Lives Matter movement.
