Ben Shephard is the bookies' favourite to take over from GMB's Piers Morgan

Ben Shephard has been named by bookies as the favourite to replace Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain.

The 46-year-old television presenter, who has filled in for Piers in the past, currently holds the odds of 2/1 to take over the coveted spot.

The latest odds came just one day after Piers Morgan stormed off set during a live programme before revealing that he had quit the show.

As ITV rally to find Piers’ replacement for the morning show alongside Susanna Reid, a number of names have been thrown into the mix as the potential replacement.

According to Ladbrokes, Ben Shephard has a good chance of being named as the next presenter to take over from Piers.

However, several others also have had odds set, including Adil Ray, Ranvir Singh and Alex Beresford.

According to Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes, the bookies are predicting that ITV producers will play it safe with their next choice.

She said: “ITV bosses have a huge plethora of talent to choose from in their quest to replace Piers.

“It looks like they will go with a safe pair of hands in Ben Shephard or Adil Ray, rather than a fellow motormouth in Jeremy Clarkson.”

As it stands, the odds facing other potential presenters include 3/1 for Adil Ray, 7/2 for Ranvir Singh and 4/1 for Alex Beresford.

A representative for ITV declined to comment on rumoured replacements when approached by the Daily Star.

The latest odds came less than 24 hours after it was announced that Piers had left Good Morning Britain.

On Tuesday evening, ITV confirmed that the presenter would be leaving the show after six years.

The statement read: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

The move came after Ofcom received over 41,000 complaints following his remarks on air earlier this week.

Piers walked off set following comments by Alex that he had “trashed” Meghan

At the time, Piers had made several critical statements about Meghan’s mental health after she revealed in an interview with Oprah that she had considered taking her own life.

The next day, Piers stormed off following a discussion with his co-star Alex during which he said Monday’s show had been “hard to watch.”

So far it is unclear who will actually take over from Piers on the morning show.
