Eamonn Holmes considering hiring a nurse to help with chronic pain struggles

Eamonn Holmes suggested he is considering hiring a nurse to aid with his chronic pain struggles, which he has been documenting on Twitter.

He and wife Ruth Langsford returned to This Morning on Monday to host, and he explained to viewers that chronic pain would be the day’s viewer phone-in subject.

Eamonn, 61, told viewers that Ruth manages to sleep through his nightly struggles, which started a month ago after he hurt his back.

And he asked his wife if she thought he should hire a nurse, as Ruth was no help in the middle of the night.

Eamonn teased Ruth, saying: “I’m really glad the intense pain I’m in at two o’clock in the morning never affects you.

“Not once do you say, ‘Are you ok, dear?'”

He went on: “It’s a gift that you have to be able to sleep, unconcerned.

“I would take a little stool to the side of the bed and mop your brow.”

After Ruth said she hoped they’d never have to test that out, he asked: “Do you think I should hire a nurse? Someone who’s kind and caring?”

A shocked Ruth replied: “Are you saying I’m not kind and caring?”

Eamonn joked she was like Nurse Ratched from the movie One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, or the 2020 Netflix series Ratched.

Earlier, he told viewers: “About a month ago, I did something to my back, I don’t know what – it could be getting into a car, out of bed, whatever.

“I’ve got an MRI scan, but the trouble is everything closes for Easter. I haven’t got it analysed yet, but what I do know is I can’t sleep at night, the pain is worse at night.”

The television legend continued: “The humbling this about this is, age isn’t a barrier, where you live isn’t a barrier, how much you earn isn’t a barrier – so many of you have this chronic pain issue from all sorts of sources.

“I’ve had this a month. I hope I’m not gonna have it much longer, but people have lived with it for their whole lives.”

On Twitter last week, Eamonn told his followers that he’d had to go to hospital to try and get to the bottom of things.

However he was still waiting for answers over the weekend, as doctors and nurses took a well-earned rest over the Easter period.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
