Gayle King sparks sexism row over Princess Anne's role in Prince Philip funeral

Gayle King has caused quite the sexist row after making a remark about Princess Anne was in the ceremonial royal procession at her father Prince Philip’s funeral.

Princess Anne doing so apparently broke tradition and the 66-year-old presenter, who was covering the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral at the time, angered viewers when she asked what was deemed a sexist question.

It came as she asked Tina Brown, the editor of Vanity Fair, why the Princess was the only woman walking behind her father’s casket after he died at the age of 99.

Pictures emerged following the funeral of Princess Anne surrounded by men, including Prince William and Harry, walking behind the vehicle.

The car was a customised Defender Land Rover carried Prince Philip to St George’s Chapel as Anne’s brother Prince Charles walked by her side.

It is not the first time Anne has one against the tradition and made a pave for female royals being able to show their respect the same as men can.

Back in 2002 Princess Anne walked behind the Queen’s Mother casket to honour her beloved grandmother.

Following Gayle’s question, it led to some backlash.

One angry viewer tweeted: “Gayle asked Tina Brown why Anne was in the funeral procession with the men? Uh, Princess Anne is Prince Philip’s only daughter!”

Another tweeted: “I don’t see why she was surprised. Princess Anne even walked for the Queen Mother funeral procession.

“And I find it disrespectful of her to even question. Princess Anne was his only daughter. Of course she was going to do that.”

“If I were Princess Anne, I would sue Gayle King for being a sexist,” tweeted another fuming viewer.

“In all sorts of ways (life would be different without him), in terms of within our family its fundamental as without him it would be completely different.
