Emmerdale fans confused by Mackenzie 'unlocked door' blunder in robbery scene

Emmerdale fans were left puzzled after Mackenzie Boyd (played by Lawrence Robb) was able to walk into Eric Pollard’s (Chris Chittell) unlocked house in the Yorkshire Dales during tonight’s episode of the ITV soap.

The scene appeared to feature a major gaffe as Eric got so caught up in the moment with his girlfriend Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) that he forgot to lock his front door.

As the pair started canoodling and getting excited, they decided to take things up to the bedroom in Eric’s lavish home.

Unbeknownst to them, a desperate and broke Mackenzie was hiding outside the house with a black beanie and gloves on – ready to slip in and rob his neighbour.

Emmerdale fans were puzzled by a bizarre Eric Pollard robbery blunder

Focusing on a red jewellery box on the coffee table, Mackenzie walked straight in through the door, grabbed the box and promptly left again.

Eric and Brenda were none the wiser, and Mackenzie proudly held up a small dragonfly brooch, clearly pleased with his loot after his job with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) went disastrously wrong.

Taking to Twitter, viewers slammed the blunder as they picked holes with the episode’s final scene.

“Who doesn’t lock their own front door #Emmerdale,” one person posted.

Another said: “Why wouldnt Eric lock the door #emmerdale.”

While a third offered: “#Emmerdale I know it’s the countryside, but that no one at all sees Mackenzie skulking around the front windows & door of Eric’s.”

Another fan was more concerned by the message it sent, saying: “@emmerdale @itvcorrie Is there a reason why every home in #Emmerdale leaves their doors open? Despite child snatchers, murderers etc.

“And why every home in #Corrie leaves a light/lamp switched on come day or night? #CarbonFootprint #coronationstreet #emmerdale.”

Mackenzie only stole a small dragonfly brooch

“No one locks their front doors in Emmerdale? #emmerdale,” a fourth queried, followed by: “Why would you burgle someone just for a broach? The stupidest burglary ever #emmerdale.”

One emotional fan then added: “I can’t believe Mac has stole that from Eric’s bang outta order….. my heart is breaking for little Carl & Nicola crumbling #Emmerdale.”

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
