Coronation Street viewers were left laughing over a reference to Piers Morgan during Monday evening’s trip to Weatherfield, as his name popped up in conversation.
Roy Cropper sat Seb Franklin down to discuss his relationship with his niece Nina Lucas, concerned they were moving too quickly.
However, in the middle of the frank discussion, Seb took a quick swipe at Piers, who is famed for his outspoken views as a presenter and who quit GMB earlier this year.
Once Nina (Mollie Gallagher) left the cafe, Roy (David Neilson) looked at Seb (Harry Visinoni) and asked his permission to speak with him.
“Everything okay?” Seb asked, sensing the cafe boss was feeling uneasy.
“May I be candid with you?” he enquired, moving to sit down opposite him.
“You can be whoever you like,” Seb replied, before adding: “So long as it’s not Piers Morgan, ’cause he does my nut in.”
When Seb realised Roy wanted to have a serious chat, he apologised for his glib tone, muttering “sorry”.
The conversation carried on, with Roy asking Seb to slow things down with Nina, worried she might become a little overwhelmed.
Watching from home, viewers were distracted by the Piers’ reference, as they took to Twitter to laugh over the scriptwriting.
“@piersmorgan You’ll be pleased to hear you got a mention on #corrie,” wrote one.
A second penned: “‘As long as it’s not Piers Morgan, he does my nut in’ If ever there was a line that I identify with!!!! #corrie.”
“Piers Morgan reference,” added a third.
Nina and Seb’s relationship will be at the heart of the show this week, as they get embroiled in a devastating hate crime storyline.
Corrie spoilers have revealed the couple will fall victim to a cruel assault at the hands of a gang of teens, leaving them both hospitalised.
Soap bosses teamed up with The Sophie Lancaster Foundation to develop the harrowing storyline, shining a light on social intolerance and prejudice.
Discussing the scenes to come, Coronation Street producer Iain MacLeod said: “The issue of intolerance and hatred towards people from different cultures and subcultures is arguably more relevant now than it’s ever been.

“This incredibly hard-hitting storyline, which centres on a senseless act of violence, will draw in characters from all corners of our narrative universe and will, we hope, leave the audience with a clear message: everyone, regardless of how they look, how they dress or any aspect of how they live their life, should be treated with tolerance and respect.
“The story will run across the rest of the year and beyond, with many twists and turns, and will be heartbreaking and dramatic in equal measure. In the end, the story will see an optimistic outcome emerge from the traumatic attack.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
