A Place in the Sun host staggered as couple flip coin to decide on dream house

A Place in the Sun’s new host Lee Juggernauth was staggered when his guests decided to buy a house by “tossing a coin”.

Lee made his debut show on Monday (May 11) when he took house hunters Dabi and Devi around Gandia in Valencia, Spain to search for a permanent home.

The couple, who live in Croydon in the UK, had a maximum budget of £180,000 as they looked for a minimum two bedroom, two bathroom house with ample outdoor space and a lovely view.

Admitting they haven’t been to the area before, Lee showed them five properties around the town of Oliva on the coast of Costa Blanca.

At the end of the viewings, Dabi and Devi had their hearts set on two different properties.

Devi fell in love with the second property in the mountain area of Barx, which offered four bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a large private pool and a large balcony.

But her husband preferred the final house in the urbanisation of Bella Vista.

The £198,000 villa came with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a back garden and an amazing mountain view.

When they met Lee the following day, they told the presenter that it was a case of “what was tipping it”.

Devi said: “Property two was amazing but for me, it didn’t have the open-plan kitchen that we wanted. There was only two bathrooms there and it was further away from the sea.

“I think it [property five] was great, it ticks the boxes in terms of location, space and view.”

Her husband argued: “But to me, when I walked into the property I felt that a slight compactness about it.”

Lee chimed in: “I feel like it’s a bit of a competition. We’ve got team Dabi who’s property number two and we’ve got team Devi who’s property five.

“Who is going to win?”

Dabi said: “We tossed a coin, yeah? And we agreed that we’d do that…and I won!”

The host raised his eyebrows and said: “You actually, literally tossed a coin? This could potentially change your life! I am thrilled.”

Dabi couldn’t contain his excitement and added: “I won, so I want to open up with property two in terms of making an offer.”

The couple put in an initial offer of £160,000 for the Barx property but the owners stayed firm at the asking price of £179,500.

So they turned to property five and submitted the same offer, hoping to get a bargain but it was rejected.

The owners finally accepted the new offer of £167,500 on the fifth property and Dabi and Devi got themselves a dream home in Spain.
