Harry says he didn't mentally process the loss of Princess Diana as a child

Prince Harry has revealed that he didn’t mentally process what happened to him when he lost his mum at a very young age.

Talking candidly on the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Harry spoke about his past and dealing with the unexpected and tragic loss of his mother, Princess Diana.

The Prince spoke openly about his mental health and how he wasn’t able to process the situation as a twelve-year-old boy.

The father also gave insight into the new series he has coming up with talk show host Oprah Winfrey that will see them discuss mental health.

Talking about mental health in more detail, filmmaker and comedian Dax Shepard said there’s a notion that there is a “separation” between your mental health and your physical health.

Replying openly, Harry explained:” I didn’t acknowledge that clearly what happened to me at twelve years old losing my mum and all the other stuff and pieces that happened and traumatic experiences that’s happened to me since then, I didn’t acknowledge that perhaps maybe I need to deal with this because if I don’t, how the hell am I going to be a decent father to my son or daughter.”

“That whole awareness I didn’t have then.”

Harry and presenter Oprah Winfrey will be hosting a new docuseries that is set to air on Apple TV later this month.

The statement from the royal communication team at the time regarding the series read: “The dynamic multi-part documentary series will focus on both mental illness and mental wellness, inspiring viewers to have an honest conversation about the challenges each of us faces, and how to equip ourselves with the tools to not simply survive, but to thrive.

“This commitment builds on The Duke of Sussex’s long-standing work on issues and initiatives regarding mental health, where he has candidly shared personal experience and advocated for those who silently suffer, empowering them to get the help and support they deserve.

“His Royal Highness has spent many years working with communities throughout the UK and young people across the Commonwealth to break the stigma surrounding mental illness and broaden the conversation of mental wellness to accelerate change for a more compassionate, connected and positive society.”

Spotify announced a multiyear exclusive license agreement with one of the world’s most listened-to and shared podcasts, the award-winning Armchair Expert podcast, co-hosted by actor, filmmaker and comedian Dax Shepard and Emmy-nominated producer and personality Monica Padman.
