X Factor star Diana Vickers, who appeared on the hit ITV series in 2008, is set to appear in a gritty TV drama about the “dark underbelly” of the music industry.
The Once songstress, 29, has been cast as the lead role in the as of yet untitled series which is being pitched to TV execs and producers.
The show is yet to be picked up but Daily Star can reveal the dark plot line sees the lead sexually assaulted in a hotel room before she goes on to kill her attacker.
A source said: “Currently a TV drama is being pitched around that will detail the dark underbelly of the music world.
“At the moment X Factor’s Diana Vickers is set as the lead role in the series.
“The plot line is about how a singing hopeful is sexually assaulted in a hotel room by their manager and then the repercussions.
“The production team behind The X Factor has come under fire in recent months for duty of care by a series of former contestants and while the show is fiction, if green lit this will no doubt bring debates about the industry as a whole to the foreground once more.”
A rep for Diana Vickers has been contacted by Daily Star for comment.
During her time on The X Factor, Diana competed against the likes of Alexandra Burke, Eoghan Quigg and JLS.
Rebecca Ferguson, who competed on The X Factor in 2010, is currently lobbying the government for an inquiry into the music industry.
Rebecca argues that the industry as a whole needs to address issues with artist welfare.
In a statement released earlier this year, she said: “People have warned me for years about doing this or have encouraged me not to speak out, and unfortunately, I realise that my career may be once again affected by speaking out.
“However, enough is enough and musicians/artists/creatives need change, a lot of my damage has been done but this is about protecting people in the future.

“We need an immediate inquiry to take place to change the way people are allowed to operate in this industry!
“The music industry brings billions of pounds into the UK economy each year in different ways – and the artists mainly responsible need to be treated with the utmost of care and respect for their contribution to society.”
Rebecca added: “By regulating the music industry and holding people to account it will make for a happier and healthier working environment, which will in turn increase productivity!
“My proposals are not very different to other businesses, I just want the people working within the industry to have somebody above them, so that they can never become so powerful that their actions are unpunishable.
“Music managers, agents etc should have a license for instance, just like in sports. They should also face a tribunal should they mistreat an artist or employee.”
