Former BBC newsreader Angela Rippon was left unimpressed with Tipping Point presenter Ben Shephard on Saturday, after he used his famous tagline “well hung”.
Describing the counters in the machine that hadn’t yet dropped Ben, 46, used an expression that famously holds sexual connotations.
But while appearing on the Lucky Stars edition of the show, Angela, 76, was not best pleased with the host’s use of terminology.
Talking about the counters, Ben said: “They are very well hung on that Tipping Point but they’re not going to drop.”
Taken aback by his brash comment, Angela turned to the presenter and questioned: “Are you sure you want to say that?”
But Ben appeared to hold back his giggles as the studio audience erupted into laughter following Angela’s response.
He then said: “I don’ know what you mean, Angela.”
Angela was also joined by Radio 1 DJ Matt Edmondson and Sky sports presenter Jeff Stelling on the Saturday afternoon programme.
But the Rip-Off Britain broadcaster certainly gave her competitors a run for their money, as she manged to beat them to the final round.
As well as commenting on her likeable personality, viewers at home were pleasantly surprised about how well Angela was doing on the show.
One fan penned: “Just tuned into.. #tippingpoint ….Angela Rippon?!!!!!”
While another said: “@benshephard #TippingPoint Lucky Stars… Angela Rippon is just so bloody lovely.”
At the end of the programme Angela decided not to trade her £6200 for the £20,000 jackpot.
But unfortunately for the BBC presenter, when she dropped her last three counters in the machine, she would have won the large cash prize for her “small charity”.
Disappointed with the result, Angela told Ben she was still happy regardless.
Journalist Angela recently hit headlines after rumours previously emerged that she had an affair with Princess Anne’s husband several years ago.
After spending time with Captain Mark Phillips to write his biography, several reporters claimed there was something more taking the place between the pair.
In a 2006 interview with The Scotsman, Angela described how she was put through a “dreadful time” by reporters who had dirty minds.
She said: “Suddenly the papers were full of these stories that I was having an affair with Captain Phillips.
“I was spending a lot of time with him so these dirty-minded reporters decided we must be having an affair.
She added: “I went through the most dreadful time.”
