Daniel Craig could serve in Royal Navy after landing 'honorary commander' title

Daniel Craig could serve in the Royal Navy after being made an honorary commander.

The actor, 53, was given the title, which awards him the same rank as his most famous character, James Bond, last week.

Although Craig said he was “honoured” to receive the title, there is now the possibility he could actually be called up by the Navy to fight for his country in a future war.

He said: “The trouble is, I think now I’ve enlisted. There was a piece of paper with something written on it and I think there might be some small print there.”

Craig admits the best thing about the distinction is that it made his mum Carol happy as his late father Timothy served in the Navy.

He was presented with his rank by First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the head of the Royal Navy, who worked with Daniel on the new 007 movie No Time To Die.

Sir Tony said: “I am delighted to welcome honorary Commander Daniel Craig to the Royal Navy.”

On Tuesday night, Daniel attended the premiere for his final James Bond film, No Time To Die in London.

The premiere took place 18 months later than previously planned due to the delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

As well as the main characters that also made their attendance to the star studded event, the occasion was given the royal seal of approval as the The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall made an appearance.

Talking more about the film and cinema as a whole, Bond star Daniel told Sky News that he is finally relieved that things are slowly getting back on track with the film industry.

He said:” We’ve had COVID so everything has to be put into perspective doesn’t it?

“I am greatly relieved, we make Bond movies for the cinema and we’re here and I couldn’t be happier about that.”

Since Daniel announced that he would be stepping down from playing the iconic character, much speculation has taken place regarding who the next actor would be to replace him.

Although the Skyfall star is fairly open about who takes the leading role, he has made fans aware that a male actor should still play the protagonist.

In addition to this, Daniel also made it clear that he would not be happy if Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman took the reins.

When asked by presenter Lorraine about Hugh becoming the main man, Daniel replied: “Over my dead body.”
