TATU stars Lena and Julia unrecognisable as they reunite two decades after chart success

TATU have decided to join forces once again 20 years after their first performance and the pair look unrecognisable from their heyday.

The Russian music duo – who were never afraid to kiss on stage – are comprised of 37-year-old singer Lena Katina and Julia Volkova, 36.

Lena turned to Instagram on Saturday to tell her followers of the group’s reunion, she said: “The official tribute to TATU will take place in the spring of 2022.”

“Please comment and name the artists/DJ you would like to hear with us on the stage?

“Your opinion is important to us!”

Fans took to social media to share their joy at the shock announcement, one commented: “It’s just like a dream, I can’t believe it, I’m so excited now.”

Another added: “We’ll come from all around the world for this Tribute Show girls. Love you so much.”

The groups chart-topping hits include All The Things She Said and Not Gonna Get Us which were released back in the noughties.

Lena and Julia represented Russia in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest and were part of a children’s music group before they form the iconic tATu.

The pair formed in 1999 and continued to work together until they split a decade ago to pursue solo career after a fall out.

Back in the early noughties, Lena had long, curly red hair while Julia was known for her short spiked crop in a dark brown shade.

Now they look much more glam, with Lena’s hair still red, but longer and slicked straight.

Meanwhile, Julia has grown hers longer too, while keeping the colour the same.

Since their disbandment, they have reunited for performances on The Voice of Romania as well as at the 2014 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony in Sochi.

The group were met with criticism during the height of their popularity, with some UK presenters campaigning to have the All The Things She Said music video banned globally.

Julia has revealed she is bisexual and, despite homophobic attitudes still at large in Russia she has shared her support for the whole of the LGBT+ community.

She said: “Love is love and it is a wonderful feeling!

“I think everybody should be free to love who they love and be with whom they want to spend their life with!”
