Jesy Nelson 'copied Little Mix bandmates in order to fit in', says expert

Jesy Nelson is believed to have “copied” her Little Mix bandmates in order to fit in, a body language expert has revealed.

The self-proclaimed “UK baddie” who released her debut solo single, Boyz, earlier this week found fame on The X Factor back in 2011 after auditioning as a solo artist.

However, judges Tulisa Contostavlos, Kelly Rowland, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell sent her home at the boot camp round before offering the 30-year-old a lifeline.

Behind the scenes, Jesy found herself being passed pillar to post, ending up in a mixed group of men and women, before eventually being placed into Little Mix.

Speaking to Vulture, she said: “I was always in and out, in and out,” before admitting: “I was with a load of boys, and I was meant to be the ‘Fergie’, if I was ever going to be in a group, that’s the group I would have imagined being in.”

Speaking to Daily Star, body language expert Inbaal Honigman said: “Watching Jesy and the Little Mix girls back, during their auditions stages and the Judges’ Houses, we are reminded of Jesy’s insecure personality – later covered up by her ultra-confident stage persona.

“Her hunched shoulders, and the way she looks at the other girls almost constantly, betray a sense of wanting to fit in.”

Inbaal went on to say: “I would guess she suffered at the hands of bullies early on in life, because in these memorable scenes, she tries not to take up too much space, making her frame smaller by dropping her shoulders and lowering her head – in an attempt not to draw attention to herself.

“As the other girls move in a way that is natural to them… Jesy observes – and copies.

“Her subconscious mind is telling her to try and fit in – move like the other girls, talk like the other girls, and she adopts new mannerisms and quirks which fit in with the band.”

She continued: “Just like those people who come back from the States with an overpowering New York accent, Jesy is just someone who adapts to her environment.

“This has been a survival method for her and isn’t something she plans or controls, in an urban environment, she’d be more street.

“Talking to Royals, she’d act refined – she’s a mutable character, and it’s no surprise that that wanted to be in a mixed group since she doesn’t favour one type of company over another.”

Jesy’s relationship with former bandmate Leigh-Anne Pinnock was brought to attention this week after Leigh-Anne allegedly sent messages to a social media influencer, urging him to post a video about Jesy’s “blackfishing”.

In recent months, Jest has come under fire after appearing to change the colour of her skin tone and hairstyles with some claiming she is blackfishing.
