Emmerdale Rosie Bentham's life – tragic loss, Gabby Thomas and Line of Duty link

Actress Rosie Bentham, who plays Gabby Thomas in Emmerdale, has had almost as dramatic a life as her character.

Like Gabby, Rosie had to deal with the death of her father, but she also got to see their joy after she landed her role.

And while Gabby’s love life is seriously complicated, Rosie seems to be fine in that department.

Gabby goes into labour in tonight’s Emmerdale, with many fans wondering if she will escape the villainous Kim Tate and leave the village with grandmother Diane Sugden.

It is one of the many dramatic plots that Gabby has been involved with since arriving in the village in 2016, when her onscreen father Ashley, played by John Middleton, was diagnosed with dementia.

With Gabby finally standing up to Kim, will Gabby be able to keep Kim out of her baby’s life for good?

It is one of many questions that actress Rosie Bentham will answer on screen, having played the role since she was a teenager.

Born on July 29, 2001 in Nottingham, Gabby is Rosie’s first major television role, which has recently seen her become pregnant with Jamie Tate’s baby, following a one night stand, and agree to leave for Portugal with grandmother Diane Sugden.

While viewers have seen Gabby’s relationship with Jamie, actress Rosie is quiet about her own life, but it is reported that she is in a relationship but keeps her boyfriend anonymous.

Outside of Emmerdale, Rosie is the youngest of four children, alongside her sister and two brothers, and has said that her hero is her mum Marianne.

She also talks openly about the death of her father John, who died in 2019 of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot), one week before her 18th birthday.

Earlier this year, Rosie told The Mirror that his death was a huge shock, saying: “I just couldn’t believe it because he hadn’t been ill beforehand.

“I got angry because I couldn’t understand why and how it had happened,” said Rosie. “I can remember saying ‘No, no, no’.”

She hopes that by sharing her own experiences of grief, that it will help other people going through the same thing, saying: “I don’t mind if people ask me about memories of my dad because I’ve got so many lovely ones.”

Rosie has spoken about the excitement of her parents when she was offered the part of Gabby in Emmerdale as a teenager at the age of 14.

Not only did she star as Gabby while completing her GCSEs and A-Levels, she also attended Nottingham’s Television Workshop Drama Group, where alumni includes Line of Duty’s Vicki McClure and fellow Emmerdale star Lucy Pargeter.

Rosie has even said she is a fan of Line of Duty and would love to explore similar dramas in her career, but also would love to stay on Emmerdale for as long as possible.

She told The Sun: “To work in the industry like I am, it’s so hard to get into it and I know so many people who have tried to get to the same place. I feel really lucky.”

Last month the actress also celebrated her 20th birthday, looking completely different to her Emmerdale character as she shared photos on her Instagram page, in a stunning red dress and with her friends.

She also told The Sun in a recent interview that the three people she would invite to a dinner party are Barack Obama, Emma Watson and Justin Bieber.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays, on ITV
