Kate Garraway mortified over cheeky quip that she sits on her phone for 'vibrations'

Good Morning Britain saw host Ben Shephard left in fits of laughter over a suggestive comment about his co-host Kate Garraway.

As Ben was presenting on the show, Kate’s alarm tone went off: “There’s Kate’s phone!” and Kate replied: “It can’t be!”

As the presenter looked for her phone, Ben pointed out that she was actually sitting on it. As Kate pulled out the phone from underneath her, she exclaimed: “Well, that’s really awkward.”

Ben asked if it was her morning alarm to wake her up and the presenters melted into laughter.

A guest speaker suggested that she was sitting on her phone “because of the vibrations”, causing Kate to jump and remind him: “Where are we, where are we?!”

Kate and Ben couldn’t stop laughing after the alarm tone rang

After the lewd joke, Ben chimed in: “…and the washing machine!”

Kate steered the conversation: “That’s extraordinary, I can’t remember the last time I set an alarm, what would that one be about? There’s somewhere I need to be, where is it?”

The Good Morning Britain official Twitter account tweeted the moment, captioned: “Only four minutes in and it’s mayhem!”

However, some Twitter users did not find humour in the interaction. One user commented: “Unprofessional – shouldn’t have phones on when presenting on national TV, especially when looking at them while working.”

The pair descended into hysterics after the cheeky comment

Mostly, viewers were in hysterics over the incident, with one writing: “Absolutely screaming! Kate Garraway you never fail to make me smile. You and Ben are the dream team!”

Another said: “Kate Garraway is a national treasure!! So natural. So nice. So normal. A little bit ditzy but aren’t we all. That just adds to the appeal.”

The comment came as Kate tried to figure out why she had set the alarm

A third jumped to her defence: “They are encouraged to have their phones on to read the comments they ask for from the viewers. It’s part of their job and totally acceptable. Oh and don’t you think Kate may have another reason to have her phone on right now?”

Kate has been appearing on TV throughout the pandemic while facing a battle in her personal life after her husband Derek contracted Covid-19.

Her husband, who still has carers supporting him, is on the road to recovery, which Kate has bravely opened up about in both a documentary and on air.
