The Chase fans were in shock when four celebrities achieved a massive win of £116k on a special edition of the ITV game show.
The epic cash prize came on a rare edition of the show – called The Chase: Celebrity Special – which aired on Saturday night (December 18).
The special edition saw four stars face off against Chaser Shaun Wallace (The Dark Destroyer) in a bid to win money for their chosen charities.
The line-up included sports broadcaster Mark Chapman, Sky News reporter Gillian Joseph, cricketer Ryan Sidebottom and comedian Fred MacAulay.
Mark was up first, and he got off to an impressive start as he banked £7,000 in his cash-builder round before out-running Chaser Shaun.
News reporter Gillian also made it back to her teammates with £7,000, and then things took an incredible turn.
However, when cricketer Ryan stepped up to the podium and finished his cash-builder, Shaun offered him a massive amount of money – £100,000.
The higher option was clearly more risky, but after a lot of deliberation with his teammates, Ryan was up for the challenge and opted for the £100k offer – and he won it.
All four members of the team made it to the Final Chase, and they racked up a lead of 22 steps for The Dark Destroyer to catch.
The pulse-raising round saw Wallace quickly catch up to the 22 points, but he got a question wrong right at the end, and eventually it was too late for him to chase down the team.
With just two seconds on the clock, Shaun was out of time and host Bradley Walsh excitedly cried: “Time is up!”
The studio erupted in cries of joy as Ryan, Mark. Gillian and Fred hugged each other – celebrating a huge win for charity.
Fans were delighted with the team’s achievement, with many congratulating them on Twitter.
One fan wrote: “that was awesome!! Congrats @markchapman and to the team that was with you! Incredible!
A second commented: “Four great charities will benefit from their win!! Excellent stuff!”
A third added: “Best episode of The Chase ever.”
A fourth said: “What drama in the final round! Great team performance by @markchapman and co.”
