The plug has been pulled on Channel 4s Celebs Go Dating as the Omicron variant continues to spread across the UK.
Chiefs of the programme had to make the hasty decision to axe the final programme over further Covid- 19 fears – as rates surge in England, Wales and Scotland.
Instead of the show going ahead as planned in the coming weeks, the episode will be filmed in 2022.
A Celebs Go Dating spokesperson said in a statement: “In light of the wider Covid-19 situation currently impacting the UK, filming for our finale is being rescheduled as health and safety remains the top priority.
“We thank our cast, contributors and crew for following our rigorous Covid-19 protocols, which ensure that we can film the series whilst maintaining a safe environment.”
They added: “Viewers can look forward to the return of the celebrity dating agency when Celebs Go Dating airs next year.”
An informant also reported to The Sun: “The safety of everyone starring on the show and those working on it is a priority.
“It seemed easier, and far safer, to delay filming the final scenes until it is safer to do so in 2022.”
Only last week, the show had to abort plans to allow stars of the show to travel abroad for their dates as more countries placed further restrictions on UK travel.
According to the same publication, producers had to quickly plot out a five night stay in Yorkshire for Celebs and their dates at last minute.
Plans were even “scaled down” with the stars of the programme just having dinner with one another – instead of the usual getaway.
Another blow for the programme came when one of celebrities caught Covid during filming which caused chaos behind the scenes.
The star had been mixing with all of the other famous faces and therefore as a result four of the cast were forced to pull out for a brief period of time.
Speaking to The Sun a source said at the time: “It’s chaos. One of the celebs caught Covid and was filming with at least three of the other stars, meaning they’re all out of the game for a while now.”
