EastEnders legend Michelle Collins loses front tooth in middle of Pantomime performance

EastEnders legend Michelle Collins has revealed her horror after her front tooth fell out in the middle of a Panto.

The soap icon was left scrambling around in a panic after the incident occurred midway through her role in Beauty and The Beast.

The actress said her co-stars helped create a makeshift gnasher out of chewing gum in a bid to help her make it to the end of the show without the audience noticing at the Lighthouse theatre in Poole, Dorset.

Michelle, 59, said: “Chris (Jarvis) and Sam our company manager we’re running around trying to help while I am panicking.

“Anyway chewing gum saved the night. I just stuck it over the hole and I went on for the second act, thank god I had finished singing.

“I sounded like Janet Street Porter with a lisp. Oh what a night.”

The actress has since undergone emergency surgery to fix her tooth after a local dentist came to her aid in time for the next performance.

It comes after the mum urged the public to support pantomimes during the Covid crisis.

She said: “I think it’s really tough trying to do a panto in Covid because it’s completely different from olden times.

“We’re all having to wear masks, we take Covid tests every day, we only have two understudies and we’re all in bubbles, we know how important it is that we’re safe as well as protecting the audience.

“The hardest thing is having to try and act and sing with masks on, I think we’re all kind of terrified that if one person gets it then we don’t want to have to close, it will be very disappointing for us but mostly for the audience because I think people are desperate to see shows again.”

Michelle famously played Cindy Beale in BBC One soap EastEnders from 1988 to 1998 before returning in 1990 until 1992.

She later appeared as Stella Price in rival ITV serial drama Coronation Street from 2011 until 2014.
