The regular BBC Breakfast presenters are taking time off at the moment, with Naga Munchetty, Charlie Stayt, Sally Nugent, Dan Walker and co missing.
Instead, Katherine Downes, 39, returned to host New Year’s Eve’s episode however she was joined by a different co-star than on Thursday.
She had been hosting with Ben Thompson, however the latest episode saw her sit on the red sofa with Chris Mason.
Chris, 41, is a political correspondent for BBC News and occasionally stands in on BBC Breakfast.
Katherine, on the other hand, had been working at BBC Sport but left her regular role in November to “concentrate on commentary and presentation”.
Usually, Naga Munchetty, 46, and Charlie Stayt, 59, host the early morning BBC show from Thursday and through the weekend, but they’re enjoying some time off.
Katherine took to Twitter as the episode started to share her excitement of hosting with someone new, after hosting with Dan Walker and Ben Thompson this week.
She shared a smiling photo of her and Chris, with the decorated Christmas trees still stood proud behind the red sofa.
Katherine wrote: “Completing a hat trick of co-hosts today. First, giant of the dance floor Dan Walker, then business bigwig Ben Thompson, now political heavyweight Chris Mason. Last BBC Breakfast of the year!”
Her followers were excited by the news, with one writing: “And what a welcome bonus that has been. You should have been Louise’s replacement I stay tuned when you’re on.”
Another wrote: “Great to see you co-presenting the main show. Still think you’re best partnership is with Leon Taylor.”
And a third, picking up on the wording in her tweet, joked: “Chris looks quite slim actually, not heavy at all…”
Meanwhile, another was confused after remembering her tweet announcing her job shake-up.
On November 6, Katherine tweeted: “So proud to have broadcast from this sofa (and other BBC sofas) for the last decade. But after 14 years at the BBC, it’s time to move on.
“I’m leaving the Sports News studio later this month to concentrate on commentary and presentation.”
At the time, Dan Walker wrote: “It has always been great to work with you Kat and I’m sure we will again. Enjoy life outside the big beast… you’ll be brilliant.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
