It is not long before excited Harry Potter fans can return to the Wizarding World, as they bring in the new year with the Harry Potter 20th anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunion programme.

It will see the cast of the film series reunite to discuss their legacy and share some behind the scenes secrets.

Ahead of the highly anticipated reunion programme, Hermione actress Emma Watson paid tribute to her fellow cast members on Instagram, saying: “I am proud not just of what we as group contributed as actors to the franchise but also as the children that became young adults that walked that path.

“I look at my fellow cast members now and I am just so proud of who everyone has become as people. I am proud we were kind to each other that we supported one another and that we held up something meaningful.”

Viewers can expect plenty of emotional reunions in Return to Hogwarts, with the cast discussing the film series’ legacy and how it changed their lives.

“It feels like no time has passed and loads of time has passed,” says Emma Watson in the trailer, as the screen shows an emotional moment between her and Draco Malfoy actor Tom Felton.

The cast will also reveal some behind the scenes secrets about how they made the popular film franchise and some of their favourite moments, including a humorous moment where Helena Bonham Carter reveals she still has the teeth she wore as Bellatrix LeStrange.

“One of the highlights of my part was when I had to pretend to be Hermione, pretending to be Bellatrix,” says Helena Bonham Carter in the trailer.

She then makes Daniel Radcliffe laugh as she takes out the teeth she wore as Bellatrix and tries them on.

It is one of the many behind the scenes stories that the cast will share in the programme, including how Ralph Fienne’s sister convinced him to play Voldemort.

He is heard saying in the trailer that he told his sister he wasn’t sure about taking the role, but that she said “You’ve got to do it.”

The reunion programme’s executive producer Casey Patterson said: “There’s magic in the air here with this incredible cast, as they all return home to the original sets of Hogwarts, where they began 20 years ago.

“The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey, through the making of these incredible films.”

Cast members from across the Harry Potter series will be returning for the reunion programme, including Hogwarts school teachers, members of the Weasley family and famous villains.

The all-star reunion boasts a huge line-up that includes heroes Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, alongside Tom Felton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch and Bonnie Wright.

They will also be joined by Mark Williams, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Jason Isaacs, Ralph Fiennes, Alfred Enoch, Ian Hart, Toby Jones and David Heyman.

The trailer shows glimpses of some of the cast’s conversations, including Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint sharing tears and laughter as they discuss making the films.

In one scene, Rupert Grint can be seen holding Emma Watson’s hand as they both look tearful, with him saying “It’s a strong bond that we’ll always have. We’re family.”

There is also a touching moment between Daniel Radcliffe and Sirius Black actor Gary Oldman, as Daniel can be heard saying: “I wouldn’t be the person I am, without so many people here.”

Along with the cast, the reunion programme will also feature insights from some of the people who made the films, including Chris Columbus, Mike Newell, Alfonso Cuaron and David Yates.

When will the reunion programme air and how can I watch it?

The Harry Potter 20th anniversary: Return to Hogwarts reunion programme will air in the UK on New Years Day (January 1 2022), the same day it is broadcast on HBO Max in the US.

UK viewers will be able to watch and stream the programme on Sky Max and Now TV.

That’s not all, as Sky and Now TV subscribers can also relive the magic and re watch all of the films in the Harry Potter series, along with the first two instalments of the Fantastic Beasts series, ahead of the reunion programme.

Speaking to the Radio Times, Zai Bennett, Sky MD of Content UK and Ireland, said: “20 years ago we welcomed a little bit of cinema magic into the world as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone had its big screen debut.

“It’s a franchise like no other, enchanting generations of children and adults alike.

“We’re marking the occasion by adding every film in the Wizarding World film series to our cinema line-up this festive season and we’re thrilled to be the exclusive home of the next piece of Hogwarts history.”
