Phillip Schofield credits his Dancing On Ice co-stars for helping him cope after he came out as gay.
The presenter, 59, opened up about his sexuality in an emotional chat on This Morning in early 2020.
Just a few days later, he was back on live TV fronting the skating show – and his friends were there for him.
Phillip told us: “What’s always lovely for anyone who decides they want to say something big, no matter who you are and what age you are, is to get the support of the people around you.
“I came into Dancing On Ice and I was still me, everyone was still them, we were all still mates – nothing changed.
“It was nice to be wrapped up in the warmth of the people that you work with and that you love.”
Phillip added that he “adores” John Barrowman, 54, who was a judge on the show at the time, and said he will be missed from this series.
He announced his sexuality to the world in February 2020, first in an Instagram post, before moving onto the This Morning sofa to speak with co-star Holly Willoughby.
At the time he told her that he was inspired by the “brave” guests who had appeared on the show.
He said to his pal: “This is tough, this is not something that has happened quickly. I’ve had to deal with this in my head for quite some time.”
Talking about his wife Stephanie Low, he said: “We have gone through this together. We have been very open and very honest.
“I cannot write in any statement how I feel about that woman. She is amazing. She is literally astonishing.”
At the end of his announcement, he said he was feeling proud of himself.
Phillip was later inundated with support, and it seems it wasn’t just people online who were sending positive messages towards the famous host.
The following weekend Phillip joined his team for the 2020 series of Dancing on Ice alongside his usual co-star Holly and the judges.
Phillip will be back on screen with the team at Dancing on Ice on Sunday, January 16.
