Hollyoaks had has its fair share of marriages and divorces in the village, with another couple set to face some relationship woes this week.

Will this be the end of another Hollyoaks couple? Or will they find a way to set aside their differences? Viewers will have to wait and see.

Many of the Hollyoaks couples have sadly had their romances cut short throughout the years or decided to split up, leaving both the characters and viewers devastated.

Here, Daily Star has taken a look at some of Hollyoaks most memorable and shocking relationship break-ups.

Freddie Roscoe and Sinead O’ Connor

Freddie Roscoe and Sinead O’Connor had one of Hollyoaks’ most memorable on/off relationships, after the couple began dating in 2010.

Shortly after they became a couple, Sinead realised that Freddie was in love with Lindsey Butterfield, the fiancée of his brother Joe – and things got worse when Sinead saw the two of them hugging and presumed Freddie was cheating on her.

After the couple fell out, they reconciled and decided to get married – but their relationship hit further rocks, including Sinead being arrested for assaulting Diane and Sinead kidnapping the love of Freddie’s life Lindsey.

Freddie and Sinead’s tumultuous relationship came to an end in 2015, when the couple filed for divorce, and Freddie went on to marry Lindsey instead.

Holly Cunningham and Jason Roscoe

Holly Cunningham had a relationship with both Jason Roscoe and his brother Robbie

Holly Cunningham and Jason Roscoe became a couple in Hollyoaks after they accidentally kissed at a party.

However, drama was soon on the horizon for the couple after Holly started affairs with Hollyoaks residents including Dodger.

Jason forgave Holly though, and viewers were delighted when he got down on one knee and proposed to her, but their happiness soon turned to sadness however, after Jason did not tell Holly that Cindy Cunningham kissed him.

An angry Holly then began an affair with Jason’s brother Robbie, but after Jason saved Holly from being kidnapped, the two reconciled, leaving a lovelorn Robbie angry and upset.

However, Jason later discovered the affair and called off his relationship, with Holly and Robbie later going public as a couple, seeming like it was happy forever after for the two of them.

After Jason collapsed however, Freddie Roscoe blamed Holly for his ill health and told her to end the relationship with Robbie, with both brothers eventually leaving the village and Holly behind for good.

Prince McQueen and Lily Drinkwell

Prince McQueen fell in love with Lily Drinkwell and later married her

After joining Hollyoaks in 2016 as the son of Goldie McQueen, Prince started a relationship with Lily Drinkwell and the couple later got married.

However, after Lily made a hurtful comment to Prince and told him that she did not want to start a family, they split up, with Prince going back home to live with mum Goldie.

Viewers were shocked when the couple split up, and more sadness was soon to follow.

Lily was about to run away with Romeo Quinn as she realised that she still had feelings for Prince and wanted to give their relationship another chance.

It sadly was not meant to be though, as Lily collapsed after contracting sepsis due to an infection from a wound, and later died, leaving Prince devastated.

Actress Lauren McQueen later said in a statement that she was proud to have been involved with the sepsis story line, saying: “I was honoured to be given such a huge story that carried a lot of responsibility.

“Even though it was challenging and emotional I really hope I did it justice and hope it raises a lot of awareness to the audience.”

Nancy Hayton, Darren Osbourne and Mandy Richardson

Darren Osborne divorced wife Nancy Hayton to be with Mandy Richardson

Two Hollyoaks residents, Nancy Hayton and Luke Morgan, were shocked after their partners embarked on an affair with other people.

Mandy Richardson and Darren Osborne’s relationship began after Darren had previously kissed Mandy while covering up for Luke, who had damaged Mandy’s wedding dress in order to postpone the wedding.

Darren and Mandy agreed to forget about the kiss, but it was only a matter of time before they were back in each other’s arms.

Despite Darren begging Mandy not to marry her husband Luke, she went ahead with the wedding, but the two started an affair soon after.

After Luke discovered the affair, Mandy ended her marriage with him, and Darren ended his marriage to wife Nancy.

Nancy later plotted to take revenge on Mandy, but after discovering that Mandy was bleeding and taking her to hospital, the two had a heart to heart in hospital and they agreed to put their fighting aside.

Luke was later sent to prison for assaulting Scott Drinkwell, but on his release from prison, he stayed with Mandy and Luke.

Darren soon realised that Mandy still had feelings for Luke, and Darren, in his jealousy, spent the night with ex-wife Nancy.

Although Mandy forgave him, earlier in 2021, she and Darren ended their relationship for good, which came as a shock to viewers.

Mandy could be heard saying to Darren: “If we go on the way we are, we’re just going to keep hurting each other, over and over again, and neither of us deserves that. We’re over, Darren.

“You should work out how to get back with the woman you’re meant to be with,” said Mandy, ending their relationship and leaving both of them broken hearted.

John Paul McQueen and Craig Dean

John Paul McQueen and Craig Dean are one of Hollyoaks’ most popular couples and even got their own fan name – “McDean” – from viewers.

Although they have now had their happy ending, viewers were devastated when the couple split for a period of time.

Their relationship began when John Paul joined Hollyoaks in 2006 and later fell in love with best friend Craig, who at the time was engaged to model Sarah Barnes.

However, the two later started a secret relationship in the soap, before Craig announced to his family that he was in love with John Paul.

Craig later asked John Paul to come to Dublin with him after he was offered a university place, but John Paul later made the heartbreaking decision to split up with Craig and leave him at the airport.

However, the two later reconciled in a romantic kiss at a train station, with the couple remaining together until 2012, when it was suddenly announced once again that they had split up, after viewers could see John Paul chasing after a bus that Craig was on.

Although audiences were devastated that their fan favourite couple were no longer together, viewers took to social media to express their delight that they would be together once more, after John Paul received a text from Craig – just as he was about to leave Hollyoaks to start a new life with his son Matthew.

One fan said: “Craig?? CRAIG?!?! I swear… I just burst into tears! So nostalgic,” while another added: “After a small internal breakdown it would appear John Paul and Craig still have my heart.”
