Alan Carr’s ex-husband has been released from prison just days after he was jailed for crashing into a police car while driving more than four times over the legal limit.
Paul Drayton was sentenced to 14 weeks behind bars on Wednesday after he was seen “swerving from side to side” during school rush hour before he later reversed into the officer’s police car.
It was previously reported that the party planner, 50, would serve half of his sentence in prison in addition to being banned from driving for three years.
Now, the star has been freed from prison after he won an appeal against his sentence on Friday morning at Brighton Crown Court just two days after he was sentenced.
His lawyer John Dye explained how the star was “absolutely petrified” about going to prison and put the wheels in motion to appeal the case following his sentencing on Wednesday afternoon.
Mr Dye compared his drunken outing to that of Katie Price’s drink-drive crash last September which the judge also presided over.
He went on to inform the court of the star’s “mental health problems” which he is continuing to seek treatment for including ADHA as well as undergoing a horrific brain operation after falling from a horse in his youth.
Earlier on in the week, the judge jailed the offender for his crime which could have taken the lives of those around him.
District Judge Amanda Kelly told Drayton how he “diced with death” when he got behind the wheel on October 9.
She told the court: “T’ve been given a lot of information about you and read your very powerful letter. I’ve heard about your battle with alcoholism, the breakdown of your marriage and the effect of lockdown on you.
“The sad reality is almost everybody comes into this room with lives that have been damaged in some way.
“You gambled with your life and the lives of others. You could have easily killed someone’s child, partner, family or friend.”
The court was told how police spotted his Mitsubishi 4X4 car swerving along the road in Broadbridge Heath, West Sussex.
Drayton was then pulled over by officials where he later crashed into the parked police vehicle that had pulled up behind him.
It was later confirmed that he had been driving with 153 mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath against a legal limit of 35mcg.
Prosecutor Melanie Wotton revealed how police spotted the car “swerving from side to side on the road” before they stopped him.
She said: “Police officers managed to stop the motor vehicle. At that point while behind the wheel, the silver Mitsubishi reversed into the police car.
“Officers got out and spoke to Mr Drayton. It was clear from his demeanour that he was intoxicated. He was unsteady and lacked co-ordination. He was subsequently arrested.”
It comes after funnyman Alan and his former husband announced their separation last Friday after 13 years together.
A spokesperson said in a statement: “After 13 years as a couple and three years of marriage, Alan Carr and Paul Drayton would like to announce they are separating.
“They have jointly and amicably made the difficult decision to divorce and go their separate ways. We request that their privacy is respected at this sensitive time.”
