“And you see it here again, if you just watch this moment, because I didn’t actually see this until I watched the footage.

“It’s the first moment that Derek moves his arm – it makes me cry now, this is the day he came home back in April 2021 – he moves his arm to hug anyone, it happens to be Bill.

“If you see, as Bill goes forward there, he moves his arm towards him and that is the first moment we’ve seen him be able to activate a movement prompted by emotion.”

Derek could also be seen hugging his daughter Darcey in the emotional moment

She added: “Because I was outside dealing with bringing in all the kit and medication I only saw that when we watched the footage back a few months ago and I burst into tears.”

Kate later appeared on Lorraine.

During her GMB appearance, the Life Stories host also confirmed she had ‘slept for the first time in about two years’ after spending a night away from her husband Derek.

Kate told Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley about her follow-up ITV documentary Caring For Derek

She said: “If I’m looking a bit puffy eyed this morning, it’s not because I’ve been crying or because I’ve been disturbed for once.

“It’s because my lovely friend Clare Nasir and her husband Chris have been looking after me and I’ve slept for the first time in about two years.”

Good Morning Britain airs from 6am on weekdays on ITV. Caring For Documentary airs tonight at 9pm on ITV.
