Sir Cliff Richard plans to 'stop' music after decades – but will never retire

Sir Cliff Richard is finally eyeing “stopping” after hits spanning eight decades.

The music legend, 81, has talked about slowing down after first hitting the big time in the 1950s with The Shadows.

And while Sir Cliff insists he will never fully retire, he says he “doesn’t mind stopping”, because he can always come back to the live stage if he gets the urge.

When asked if he has plans to retire, The Young Ones singer said: “Well, I don’t know if I ever want to retire. I don’t mind stopping.

“Fortunately, in 2021, I did get to perform The Great 80 Tour. I was 80 when I started it, but when I finished, I was 81!

“Stopping would mean that I could absolutely change my mind any time I wanted to, or phone my office and say: ‘Can you get us a couple of nights at the Royal Albert Hall?’

“So, retiring is not in my vocabulary, but stopping is good for me.”

He added: “I can work whenever I want to, if I want to.”

Over the years, Cliff has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many famous people, including his good friend Grease star Olivia Newton-John, 73.

He is in complete awe of the film stars positivity in spite of many worrisome bouts of cancer she has faced over the years.

The hitmaker explained that Olivia is “one of the most stalwart people” he had ever met because she would never refer to her cancer as a battle.
