Dancing On Ice fans gobsmacked as star returns after four years in 'disappointing' dance

Dancing On Ice fans were left stunned on Sunday (February 27) as one former star returned to the show after four years.

Coronation Street legend Sally Dynevor was performing her routine for Props week alongside her professional partner Matt Evers when she was joined by a very special guest.

Sally’s Coronation Street co-star Antony Cotton – who competed in the 2018 series of the ITV show – returned to the ice in an incredibly sweet gesture to his pal on the cobbles.

Not only did Sally and Matt head over to the Corrie set to get a taste of the actress’ world away from the ice rink, but Antony also got his skates back on to help Sally out.

Their routine was set in Audrey’s Salon, and featured Sally and Antony – who plays Sean Tully in the soap – in salon chairs being swung around on the ice, before Antony leapt into Matt’s arms.

However, the routine sadly drew disappointing scores from the judges – with the lowest score being a six.

And fans simply couldn’t believe their eyes, as one gushed: “Antony was brilliant, fabulous on ice still!”

As someone else giggled: “Antony Cotton was the best bit about Sally’s limited routine.”

“Great to see Antony with Sally!” a third fan said.

Another fan included a string of cry-laughing emojis as they posted: “Antony making an appearance in Sally’s skate!”

However, others were left disappointed with the routine, especially as the judges remarked that Sally barely let go of the chair to skate at all during the performance.

One fan said: “Antony Cotton skated more than Sally did…”, as another echoed: “That Antony dude skated more than Sally did, she was on the chair majority of it!”

Antony went up against his fellow Corrie star Brooke Vincent – best known for playing Sally’s on-screen daughter Sophie Webster – when he appeared in the tenth series of the competition.

He placed sixth overall in the contest, while X Factor star Jake Quickenden took the crown.

Others, however, were a lot more supportive of Sally’s skills, as they praised: “It was a good effort from Sally and Matt it’s a 6.5 from me but at least you’re still smiling Sally!

“Well done anyway and all the best with the results later. It was good to see Antony on the ice again after four years he was great back then.”

Another said: “Sally had good use of the prop but I would have preferred to have seen more skating! Was nice having Antony Cotton back on the ice though!”

As another supportive viewer encouraged her: “Well done to Sally for giving it a good go! All people moaning if you want to watch established skaters watch the Olympics!”

Dancing On Ice continues next Saturday at 6:30pm on ITV.
