SAS Australia star Ant Middleton has opened up about his past mistakes as the star opened up about his upcoming motivational book.
The book, which is aimed at children, sees Ant opening up on failure and the reality of life in a bid to help support youths moving into adulthood.
He spoke to This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Josie Gibson about his upcoming book as he spoke of his own failures and confessed he believes if he knew then what he knows now, he wouldn’t have made some of the “bigger mistakes” in his life.
One mistake that Ant opened up on was his time in prison as he told the hosts it was his “biggest learning curve”.
He said: “That as my biggest learning curve in life. My biggest failure was going to prison, boy, oh boy. That was my biggest learning curve.
“Talk about self reflection, talk about, you know, holding yourself accountable. Ultimately this is not about passing the blame.
“Not trying to bat it off as an excuse. Hold yourself accountable. Be honest with yourself. Honestly it can free you as an individual, but it’s really hard to do.”
Ant said that while prison was his biggest failure, he learned a big lesson from it as he said he gathered an “understanding” of who he is and what he needed to do differently.
He added: “It’s changed me as an individual and changed my life.
“So that’s what I say to people, do not be scared of failure because you will get your most valuable lessons from failure.”
Ant previously went to prison for four months for the assault of two police officers outside a nightclub in 2013.
Josie complimented Ant’s reflection as she praised him for saying that you shouldn’t feel embarrassed of failure.
Ant encouraged people to “embrace” failure, but is hopeful that his new book might help people steer clear some of the more damaging failures in life.
He said: “I’ve been through this and I want to arm kids, teens, going into adulthood with what it’s like to fail. You know what it’s like to make mistakes.
“Failure isn’t going anywhere. It’s a part of my life. I’ve made mistakes and failed up to now in my life and I’m going to fail until the day I die.”
This Morning continues weekdays on ITV at 10am.
