BBC Breakfast hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were left outraged as weather presenter Carol Kirkwood landed herself a new job.
The presenters were hosting from the studio on Wednesday (April 13), with Carol armed with a clicker and green screen to give the meteorological report for the week ahead.
But things quickly turned sour as Jon and Sally joined the Morning Live studio via video link to see what was coming up in the programme at 9:15am.
During the link-up, Sally announced: “Let’s find out what they have for us this morning with Kym [Marsh] and Gethin [Jones]. Morning guys!”
The pair then explained what lay ahead, including discussions of the energy crisis and sinusitis symptom management.
Kym then revealed: “We could be in for a treat with the weather this Bank Holiday, fingers crossed! Legendary weather presenter Carol Kirkwood tells us why temperatures are set to be hotter than Majorca, thanks to some Saharan gusts!”
But Sally and Jon clearly weren’t chuffed to see their beloved co-star appearing on another programme, as Sally snapped: “Hands off Carol Kirkwood, she’s ours! What’s she doing on Morning Live?”
Jon interjected: “She’s moonlighting! Carol! We’ll hear from Carol in a few minutes with the weather…”
Even her co-star Dan Walker chimed in on Twitter, sharing a sweet snap of Carol with the caption: “Good morning Carol. All the best with your new job”, accompanied by a cry-laughing emoji.
However, it doesn’t look like Carol is going anywhere soon – as some fans have predicted she could take up Dan’s spot on the sofa, after he quit the BBC show for Channel 5.
Eager viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts, with one gushing: “Not sure we’ve had a weather presenter take the sofa? This opens up bringing the mighty Carol Kirkwood in!”
Someone else posted: “I truly hope Carol you become the replacement presenter of the great Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast, as I think after all these years you deserve that chance and would be great at it, especially after bringing us great weather forecasts for many years.”
As another viewer agreed: “Thinking about Dan Walker leaving @BBCBreakfast. Opportunity for a shake up! Like, have a woman sit on the left side of the screen?”
Others, however, are sure her rival weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans, or stand-in host Jon Kay, could be set to take Dan’s place.
Someone theorised: “I wonder if BBC will go with Owain Wyn-Evans for BBC Breakfast job… definitely been grooming him for a big job within the organisation for some time…”
“[Dan’s] replacement is obvious. @OwainWynEvans who else can entertain the audience like Owain?” another viewer echoed.
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
