Love Island's Gemma born with competition 'in her blood' thanks to dad Michael Owen

Gemma Owen is taking no prisoners as she reflects on her competitive streak, which she has her dad, famous footballer Michael Owen for.

The international dressage star, 19, is set to take the limelight when she steps into the Love Island villa on June 6, after what her nearest and dearest described as “the worst kept secret”.

Ahead of her reality television debut, the stunning brunette spoke exclusively to the Daily Star and admitted that she’s not afraid to show just how competitive she can be.

But Gemma says competition is “in her blood” thanks to the Owen family’s sporting background.

She said: “I’m definitely competitive, I think all of us as a family are, it’s in our blood.

“I think if someone is in a proper relationship, I’d never go for it, I’d never get in the way of that, because I just wouldn’t, I’ve got morals and respect.

“I think if someone’s coupled up and I really like them, I’ll make my feelings known, but I’ll do it in a very respectful way, I wouldn’t want to purposefully be nasty to another girl.

“I’d like to keep everyone in the loop of what’s going on.”

But Gemma has no plans to brag about who her famous father is, as she wants to be known for being herself, rather than the daughter of an ex-footballer.

She explained: “If they [fellow Islanders] ask questions about my family or what do my parents do then, of course, I’m going to be open about it and talk about it.

“But yeah, I’m not going to go in there and make sure it’s one of the first things I say or anything like that, because I’m not that sort of person.”

Asked why she has entered the Love Island villa, Gemma revealed: “I am open to finding love, I’m wanting to have a really fun summer.

“I was seeing someone and then that didn’t work out so I thought, ‘Why not?”

The star has revealed that she is ‘very honest’ and a ‘good person to talk to’, saying: “I would say I’m fun, flirty and fiery.

“I think I’m good at giving advice, I’m a good person to talk to, I’m very honest.

“If I want the same guy, I’d do it but in a nice respectful way.”
