Love Island star Maura Higgins reveals horrific sexual assault by taxi driver

Love Island’s Maura Higgins has opened up about a horrific encounter of how she was sexually assaulted by a taxi driver.

The 31-year-old star bravely revealed the harrowing detail during a Q&A session over on her Instagram story in front of her 3.5million followers.

Enjoying some sunshine and being outside on a walk, Maura felt comfortable enough to respond to a fan about her haunting experience, when asked about her “worst encounter with a man”.

She explained: “I had an incident with a taxi driver a long time ago in Ireland.

“Silly me, I fell asleep. My friends were dropped off before me and I was dropped off alone because I lived alone at the time.”

The reality star went on to add: “I woke up and his hand was right up my skirt.

“Honestly, I sobered up so quickly. I mesmerised his taxi number so quick and still remembered it the next day.”

The conversation was prompted after one unknown follower had asked Maura: “What’s the worst encounter with a man?”

Before Maura had openly discussed her frightful account, she hinted it wasn’t the first time she’d had a bad experience with a man and that there was a worse story to come.

The Dancing On Ice star told fans: “The worst one I’ve never ever, ever, opened up to any of you about, and I don’t even think I’m ready yet.

“It was, like, probably one of the scariest things that’s ever happened to me.”

Back in 2018, Maura took Love Island fans by storm and was loved for her straight talking and no nonsense attitude.

During one episode, Maura became somewhat of an idol among the feminist community as she fired back at her then-love interest Tom Walker who had said to the lads: “It’ll be interesting to see if she’s all mouth or not.”

Needless to say Maura got wind of the conversation and furiously struck back telling the group of chaps that just because she was open about talking about sex, it did not mean she’d be jumping into bed with anyone.

The Irish model was heaped with praise and went on to speak about her positive reception with Grazia.

She told the publication at the time: “I mean, obviously, I’m flattered. I never realised I was a feminist!

“I just stand up for myself, and I won’t let anyone talk s*** about me. And you know, I do talk about sex, but so do guys.

“I think a lot of women are afraid to talk about sex, but it’s a natural thing. Why not talk about it? I grew up always being able to talk to my mammy and daddy. I don’t feel ashamed.”
