Rod Stewart suffers ‘devastating 48 hours’ as brother dies two days before Queen

Sir Rod Stewart revealed his brother Don died earlier this week – just two days before the Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

The 77-year-old singer confessed his family had been through “a devastating 48 hours” following the passing of his older brother on Tuesday (September 6).

In a heartbreaking post, the rock singer – who performed at the Platinum Jubilee concert in June – took to Instagram and Twitter to share the death of his 94-year-old brother.

He went on to reflect about the death of two monumental people in his life, his older brother and Her Royal Highness in a lengthy post online.

It read: “It has been a devastating 48 hours. We lost my brother Don on Tuesday 94 and today we have all lost Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at 96.

The beloved rock star – who is married to Penny Lancaster – went on to share his thoughts on Her Majesty’s passing as he described her as “an unwavering presence” throughout his life.

He went on: “The Queen has been an unwavering presence throughout my life and a great unifier. A shining star that will never fade in our hearts and souls.

“What a privilege it was to perform for her. My deepest sympathies to the Royal Family. God save the King.”

Fans of the chart-topping artist soon flooded to his comments section to share their condolences to him and his family during this difficult time.

One user penned: “I’m so, so sorry to hear about your brother. I can only imagine how heartbreaking that is.”

Another agreed: “So sorry to hear about Don, thinking of you and your family” while a third echoed: “The country now mourns alongside you.”

It comes after King Charles III led the nation in mourning the loss of his mother the Queen, as he made his first public speech as the new monarch.

As he addressed the nation for the first time as the King of England, Charles said: “The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.

“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother.
