Kim Kardashian might be known as the Queen on Instagram with her 332 million followers, that hasn’t put her in the top 10 earners in terms of sponsored posts on the social media platform.
That’s according to those who have been crunching the numbers on how much some of the world’s biggest celebs have been earning on Instagram.
NetCredit has been scouring the feeds of footballers, musicians and TV personalities to see how much their accounts are raking in for them.
The website says the deal of income in return for sponsored posts has become a decent earner for some of Instagram’s biggest players.
It says those with more than one million followers average $15,000 (£13,000) per month, while top celebrities can make substantially more than that.
They’ve even done a country-by-country breakdown so those across the globe can compare and contrast their social media earnings.
So, from the UK to the US, here are the top Instagram earners in 2021, according to NetCredit’s clever algorithm.
World’s top-earning celebs on Instagram
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo was the world’s top Instagram earner last year, making $85m (£75m) from sponsored posts.
While Lionel Messi, 35, might have piped rival Ronaldo to a few Ballon d’Or trophies over the years, it is he that is runner up in the Instagram stakes.
Ronaldo has 489m followers compared to his former Barcelona nemesis’ 367m.
And according to NetCredit, the Paris Saint-Germain forward took almost $72m (£63m) in sponsored posts — $12m less than the former Real Madrid forward.
In third place is another sportsman, Virat Kohli, a former India cricket captain and who currently plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League
However, the 33-year-old is said to earn substantially less than his football comrades, pocketing $36m dollars (£31.7m) from advert-linked social media activity.
Actor and talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres is the fourth top Instagram earner in the world — making her the richest in the US — with her deals making her close to $34m (£30m) per year.
In terms of the UK, pop sensation Dua Lipa, 27, is the highest Instagram earner on these shores, according to NetCredit.
The Levitating singer makes a healthy $13m (£11m) from the sponsored posts she shares with her 87.5m followers.
While that is a long way behind Beyonce, pop’s highest earner and fifth in the world table, and her $33m (£29m).
But the Londoner with Kosovan heritage is doing better than Canadian singer and household name Justin Bieber, who maths-whizzes think trousers $4.5m (£3.9m) from Insta.
How did they work out the top Instagram earners?
NetCredit explained how they came to produce their rankings.
The firm first built a list of the most-followed Instagram stars from every country.
With that list in hand, the company then used figures from the Instagram rich list to estimate fee-per-ad for each country’s most-followed stars.
Staff then counted up the number of sponsored posts made by each star in 2021 and multiplied this by their known or estimated ad fee to produce the final annual estimate.
