The Chase fans outraged over player's controversial tactic just minutes into show

Fans of The Chase were left seething during the show on Thursday (November 10) after a player opted for the minus offer.

The popular ITV quiz series returned with its latest batch of contestants – Angus, Julia, Vickie and Tim – who were all hoping to bag a big cash prize to take home.

As always, they were forced to face one of “Britain’s finest quiz brains” if they wanted to walk away with a large sum of money, and this week it was chaser Anne The Governess Hegarty standing in their way.

But it wasn’t long before recruitment and marketing professional Angus ruffled feathers with his controversial advice to his teammate Vickie.

It was just minutes into the episode when Angus sparked fury with the infamous tactic, which saw him urge Vickie to take the lower offer given to her from Anne.

Vickie had managed to rack up £6,000 in her cashbuilder, leaving host Bradley Walsh and The Governess rather impressed with her quizzing skills.

Anne revealed to her a high offer of £26,000 or a low offer of just £1,000, but when Bradley asked the team what they thought Vickie should do, Angus advised her to take the £1k.

Bradley himself was gobsmacked and the viewers at home were fuming at the prospect of a low offer, an infamously unpopular tactic on the show.

One fan on Twitter complained: “WTF, Angus?! We haven’t even started!” whilst another wrote: “Angus way too enthusiastic about low offers for my liking”

A third said: “Low enabler klaxon!” as another pleaded: “Why Angus, why!”

Taking a lower offer means less risk and increases the chances of a player beating the chaser and making it back to the team for the final chase, but it means they lose a large chunk of their potential winnings.

But it got worse later on as Angus angered fans again by taking the notorious minus offer from The Governess which took £1,000 off the team’s winnings.

He’d also advised all other teammates to take the lower offers which didn’t sit well with the punters.

One fan fumed: “No one should ever be taking the minus figure…”

A second penned: “Angus has advised all 3 team mates to take the minus offer and also taken it himself .. what’s the point of coming on!”

In the end, the tactic proved rather helpful as Angus, Julia and Vickie made it to the final chase with £11,000, but they were unable to beat The Governess.
