Strictly winner Hamza Yassin pictured in ‘advanced’ dance routine 12 years before show

Strictly Come Dancing winner Hamza Yassin has become embroiled in a bitter row after lifting the Glitterball trophy last weekend.

The ‘novice’ dancer has now been pictured performing an ‘advanced’ routine more than a decade before partnering up with Jowita Przystał in the Strictly ballroom.

Strictly brings celebrities with little to no dancing experience together with professional dancers to compete for the Glitterball.

And despite stars like Fleur East having prior experience due to her career in the music industry, it was not thought that British wildlife cameraman Hamza had dance experience before the BBC show.

Hamza Yassin lifted the Glitterball this weekend – but it appears he already had prior experience

New pictures show Hamza performing a paso doble at Bangor University Dance Club’s end-of-term show way back in 2010. He also performed a ‘beginner’s’ salsa routine.

Speaking to The Mirror, a fellow student who took part in the show commented: “For the BBC to continue insisting he is a complete novice even when faced with hard evidence in the form of a video of him performing an ‘advanced’ paso doble feels extremely misleading.

“Yet the mistruths were still being aired on Saturday’s show.”

In the video, Hamza can be seen wearing black slacks and a black long-sleeved shirt as he dances with a female partner in a black skirt and pink tank top.

It comes despite numerous insistences from BBC stars that he had no prior dance experience.

Jowita even told viewers during the tearful final: “He came here on the show with no dancing experience, with pigeon toes, and he made it.”

BBC News also ran an article claiming Hamza had never partaken in dance lessons before Strictly.

Hamza’s spokesperson said: “He took part in two amateur dance performances.”

In a lengthy statement after his victory, Hamza said: “Let me start by thanking my dance partner Jowita. You are an angel disguised as a human being, a ray of sunshine!

“Thank you for your trust and guidance throughout this incredible journey. You shone a light for me that got me through some tough weeks and you have been by my side every step of the way.

“You will go on to do great things in your life. It was my pleasure to be your student. I will forever be grateful for how you have changed my life.

“From the bottom of my heart thank you very much. Pigeon-toed Hamza.”
