BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent hits back as Jon Kay takes brutal swipe at age

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent shut down her co-host Jon Kay when he made a comment about how old they were getting.

Jon accidentally put his foot in it during a chat about tennis with sports presenter Holly Hamilton on Monday (January 2) ahead of the Australian Open which kicks off in two weeks.

Holly said: “The Australian Open starts two weeks today. I say this every year, it creeps up on me. It’s like a surprise. It happens every January.”

Sally agreed: “I can’t believe it was a year ago,” and Holly added: “Can’t believe it!”

But Jon got himself into trouble when he mentioned they were getting older, and Sally wasn’t having any of it.

He said: “We’re getting old, that’s the thing! Time passes too quickly.”

Sally was quick to hit back: “Speak for yourself,” prompting the pair to burst out laughing.

It comes after Jon admitted he almost missed New Year’s Day after partying it up on New Year’s Eve.

Co-host Sally Nugent asked Jon: “What did you do to celebrate New Year?”.

Jon replied: “I was at a party.”

But she cut him off as she was eager to see if he’d been nursing a hangover, asking him: “Did you wake yourself up on New Year’s Day with a bit of a fright?”

Jon hinted he’d been partying rather hard on New Year’s as he woke up very late indeed the next day.

He confessed: “Just about New Year’s Day, yes!” before the pair burst out laughing at his blunder.

Jon was announced as a permanent BBC Breakfast host last July, replacing past anchor Dan Walker who left the broadcaster for Channel 5 News.
