BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent begs for help as co-star scolded for being 'inappropriate'

BBC Breakfast presenter Sally Nugent was left begging for help during the week’s first instalment of the morning programme, as she simply couldn’t cope with Jon Kay’s “inappropriate” behaviour.

The pair were firmly seated on the famous red sofa on Monday (January 23) and discussing a famous duck named Ham, who lives in Chorley.

Introducing the segment, Jon explained: “[Later] we’ll hear about the adventures of a mischievous duck named Ham, who’s become a celebrity in his home town of Chorley.”

But he couldn’t resist a cheeky aside to Sally, as he quipped: “And, er, talking of bills…”

“Oh god, Jon! Oh Jon!” Sally exclaimed, with her co-star Nina Warhurst joining in beside her – all prepped to talk about the ongoing cost of living crisis.

“Sorry,” Jon apologised. “I tried. It just came to me that same thing… Nina’s here!”

With a deadpan expression, Sally begged: “Help us, Nina! Just help us!”

Nina scolded Jon: “It’s not appropriate, Jon,” as Sally agreed: “It’s not!”

Covering for himself, Jon insisted: “It’s Monday morning!”

“It’s allowed,” Nina finally acquiesced, as she went on: “I am looking forward to seeing Ham. Is his nickname Hamdini because he keeps escaping?”

“We’ll find out later,” Jon teased.

It comes after Matt Taylor was forced to apologise last week after replacing Carol Kirkwood for the weather segment.

Naga Munchetty had branded Carol “frosty” earlier that week, telling her: “You’re perfectly matched to the weather today aren’t you? Like frosty.”

It might have been a slight relief as Matt stepped in for her – although thankfully Naga was only commenting on Carol’s stunning blue dress.

A segment on dogs taking a minibus turned awkward as Matt joked: “You know what the first stop of that bus, of course, was, er, Barking.”

Naga was left groaning at the terrible pun, as Matt forced himself to apologise after a few false starts.

“Sorry! It’s Friday morning, I’m allowed!” he argued.

Naga granted him a giggle at that, before the segment moved quickly on to more serious discussion about the icy conditions.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
