Amanda Owen scoffs to cameraman as farmer 'swipes' at her during Happy Valley trip

Amanda Owen had a rather awkward encounter during her visit to Happy Valley after a farmer took a “swipe” at her.

The 48-year-old headed to a farm in Todmorden during Wednesday’s episode (February 8) of her More4 series, Amanda Owen’s Extraordinary Farming Lives.

As Happy Valley fans will know, Todmorden, aka the Calder Valley, is where Sarah Lancashire’s smash hit police drama was filmed and set.

However, Amanda was left speechless and turned to the cameras in shock when a farmer made a sly dig at her.

Amanda was speaking to Sarah Jane and Nat at Porcus Farm in the Pennines above Todmorden, when the rather awkward incident took place.

Discussing the community around their farm, Sarah Jane told Amanda: “It is nice to feel a bit looked after. There’s a temptation to go look for a property that’s totally isolated, huh.”

She suddenly stopped her sentence and then pointed towards Amanda.

Amanda, looking a tad awkward, then gave a shrill laugh and looked directly at the cameraman in shock.

Nat continued: “But actually when these guys are away we feel a little bit lost.”

The new series is Amanda’s first solo project since her heartbreaking split from her husband Clive.

Throughout the episodes, Amanda meets farmers from across the country to find out what life is like for them.

Amanda and Clive share nine kids together but split up last year.

Clive has subsequently gone on to have an Our Yorkshire Farm spin-off with son Reuben, while the duo co-parent their brood.

Talking about her new show, the 48-year-old said: “If you’re in farming and agriculture, it’s very easy to feel like you’re unsupported, even vilified, heartening to see how different people were making it work and how diverse modern farming is.”

Amanda added: “This series will show what life’s really like for farmers in 2022. To the outside world, it might seem like some farmers have it made, with large plots of land and expensive machinery but, as ever, the truth is much more complex.”

She went on to say that she is keen to shine a light on the high expectations of farmers and meeting some “extraordinary people” from across the UK.
