New TV series starring Meghan Markle’s pal contains barbed jab at Kate Middleton

A new TV series starring Meghan Markle’s pal Priyanka Chopra Jones appears to contain a subtle swipe at Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales.

The new Prime Video series, starring Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci, follows a global spy agency which erases the memories of its agents – and a series of spies trying to get those memories back.

And the series makes a rather barbed dig at the royal, as Priyanka’s character Nadia Sinh tells her partner Mason Kane (Madden) to meet with the leader of crime organisation Manticore.

The third episode features a scene where crime boss Balduino Basto attempts to broker a deal with the military, with Nadia giving instructions via an earpiece.

Basto, played by Sen Monro, quips during said scene: “The chief of armed forces? You might as well have asked me how to get between the legs of the Duchess of Cambridge.”

Citadel star Priyanka Chopra has made her friendship with Meghan Markle very public over the years, and was even invited to her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.

She gushed to Us Weekly that year: “I’ve known Meghan for three years and I’m so happy the way the world has responded to her because as long as I’ve known her… she is a relatable young woman of the world today.”

She described her as a “girl who thinks out of the box” and an “activist” with a “strong voice”.

The show aims a crude joke at Kate Middleton

The pair first met at an ELLE Women in Television dinner back in 2016, with Meghan later interviewing Priyanka for her blog The Tig.

And it’s not the actress’ first run-in with Kate and Wills. Back in 2021, Priyanka appeared at Wimbledon and appeared to snub the royals who were sitting a few rows in front of her.

Priyanka wasn’t seen clapping as the pair made their entrance as a traditional sign of respect.

In recent days, it emerged that a similar swipe had been made at Kate in the new Disney live adaptation film of The Little Mermaid.

According to Page Six, one early viewer of the film said it draws “a number of subtle yet plausible comparisons” between Meghan and Harry and lead characters Ariel – played by Halle Bailey – and Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King).

They said: “Ariel has sacrificed her voice in order to get to the surface and [meet] Prince Eric. She can’t speak so he tries to guess her name.

“His first guess is Diana. His second guess is Catherine, but after [Ariel gives a disgusted] reaction, he [concludes] ‘OK, definitely not Catherine.’”

The source added: “Disney would be disingenuous to imply those name choices were coincidental.”
