Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman made an awkward blunder during Saturday’s live show (September 23).
The star returned alongside co-host Tess Daly to welcome the star-studded contestants for a night of glitz and glam as the stars brought their a-game for the show’s incredible debut.
Viewers saw EastEnders star Nigel Harman took to the dancefloor with partner Katya Jones for a sensational Pasadoble, finishing off the night with the highest scores of the evening after landing a score of eight from all four judges.

As Claudia Winkleman congratulated the pair on their episode victory, she congratulated Katya by saying: “you are top of the leaderboard well done. Katya that’s your highest ever week one score.”
But moments later she can be heard saying: “oh no it’s not…ok” and quickly moved on from the awkward moment.
In second place were Layton and Nikita, Bobby and Dianne and Ellie and Vito, who all scored 29 points, followed closely by Amanda and Giovanni and Annabel and Johannes with 28 points.
Fans were loving Nigel’s epic routine on social media, with judge Craig even gushing: “Well, I wouldn’t want to be in the competition with you around.”
Strictly Come Dancing 2023 returned to screens tonight, with the 15 couples taking to the floor to perform separately for the first time. Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke were back in their judging seats following their own impressive routines last week and gave the famous faces their first scores of the series.
Also stunning fans was TV anchor Angela Rippon and Kai Widdrington. The duo danced a lively cha cha to Shirley Bassey’s rendition of Pink’s song Get The Party Started.
In their performance, Angela gave a sassy performance in an incredible robe and glitzy dress. The energetic performance ended with Kai grabbing Angela’s leg and pulling it all the way into the air.
The pair scored an incredible 28 out of 40, after all four of the judges gave them a 7. Craig Revel Horwood described the performance as “jawdropping” whilst Motsi Mabuse stated: “OMG, can we discuss absolutely everything.
“I mean up there it was giving the vibe ‘Do you know who I am’ I am Angela Rippon.” While presenter Tess Daly jokingly called the contestant “Queen Angela.”
Viewers were just as impressed with the performance. One user posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that: “@AngelaRipponSCD absolutely killed it on @bbcstrictly! At 78, she showed us all that age is just a number. She was fabulous and got the party started! Let’s talk about that insane kick!”
