Celebs who have been snubbed by Strictly – from Katie Price to Gemma Collins

BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing is one of the hottest celebrity bookings in town, with many well-known faces often lining up to take part.

Catapulting celebrities to a different level of stardom, the entertaining show puts the selected contestants under intense pressure as they learn to dance in front of millions. But although some celebrities have distanced themselves from taking part, others have never been given the opportunity- despite desperately wanting to.

Over the years, Strictly has been widely reported for their “blanket ban” on reality stars, with the likes of Charlotte Crosby speaking out against this in the past. A TV insider previously said: “Certain reality celebrities have been peddling stories about being ‘in talks’ for the show when they have never been approached.

“Bosses are now fed up with hearing the same people bandying around their own name. Just to shift a few copies of a weight-loss DVD.”

So, with this year’s competition already in full swing, Daily has taken a look at the celebs who Strictly have seemingly shunned.

Katie Price

For a number of years former glamour model Katie Price has shown an interest in participating in strictly-come-dancing>Strictly Come Dancing. However, she’s never been given the opportunity.

Earlier this year, the 45-year-old clearly had enough of being snubbed by producers and shared her thoughts online. Although the star initially admitted to “having two left feet”, Katie later lashed out and hinted that she’s never been given the chance.

During a TikTok live Katie failed to hold back about newer celebs on reality shows. She said: “So many celebs are up their own a*******s, because I’ve been around so long.

“I think you find people who have newly got fame are more up their a*s but people who have been in the industry a long time are more down to Earth. But no one ever gives me s**t because they know I’ve been in the industry a long time, so no one is actually horrible to me.”

In 2020, Katie suffered injuries to her feet while in Turkey breaking both her feet. The star added: “My feet have been alright at the minute, I just feel like I have to give it a go.”

Earlier this year, Katie tried to give the BBC another nudge by sharing a fake snap of herself on the famous dancefloor alongside a Strictly professional. Captioning her Instagram post, she wrote: “Yessss @bbcstrictly. Get Kati on Strictly 2023.”

Gemma Collins

Reality TV icon Gemma Collins threw her hat in the ring and said she would love to take part in Strictly. However again the Gemma was never asked.

Earlier this year, the former Towie star told OK!: “Do you know what, I would love to do it. They had a plus-size girl [comedian Jayde Adams] on there last year. I would do Strictly, so we’ll see what happens.”

In 2019, Gemma appeared to make the BBC a proposition by telling the broadcaster that she wouldn’t “sue them” over her trapdoor plunge at the Radio 1 Teen Awards in 2017 if she could go on Strictly.

Back in 2017, Gemma accidentally fell through a stage trap door, seriously injuring herself. Gemma was about to announce the award for Best TV Show when the accident occurred.

Curtis Pritchard

Love Island star Curtis Pritchard has always been rather vocal about his hopes of joining Strictly. His older brother AJ found fame on the show as a professional dancer and Curtis, who is also a trained dancer, previously said he wouldn’t mind doing the same.

But due to his Love Island background, many previously thought his chances on the show would be slashed. However since former Love Island star Zara McDermott was given a chance to do the show, there could be hope for Curtis.

Speaking to Daily Star earlier this year, Curtis said he would have loved to be the first islander to hit the dancefloor. He said: “I’m a professional dancer so I couldn’t be a contestant but I’d love to give it ago.

“They’ve never taken a Love Islander, have they? There’s always a first. I could be one of the pro dancers.” But although there have always been rumours that Curtis was in talks with producers, he seems to have never been asked.

Laura Anderson

Another Love Island star who has set her sights on Strictly is Laura Anderson. The new mum, who welcomed her daughter Bonnie Rose earlier this year, shared a video of herself strutting her stuff as she entertained her little one.

She captioned the video: “See you next year @bbcstrictly,” alongside a string of emojis. She continued: “Anyone else saved by these dancing fruit on the daily? Can’t believe I’ve just heard about it.”

In 2018, Laura also revealed that she hoped to join the show one day but her hopes were shattered. She said: “My ultimate goal in life is to be on Strictly, but apparently they don’t take reality people. I have huge respect for the kind of dance they do. But a girl can dream.”

Bobby Norris

Towie icon Bobby Norris previously revealed that he would love to do Strictly but has never been approached for the job. Talking openly to Daily Star Bobby revealed that he feels it’s the perfect Saturday night out.

He said: “Would I do Strictly? Yeah for sure, I mean I don’t know how good I would be.

“But I love the outfits, I love the show, I mean what’s not to love, turn up on a Saturday night, have a nice spray tan, have a lovely outfit, and have a dance around, do you know what I mean? That’s the perfect Saturday night for me!”

Jake Quickenden

Reality star Jake Quickenden has been very vocal on wanting to participate in Strictly. But due to his previous stint on rival show Dancing on Ice, he feels he may not be given the chance.

He previously told Daily Star: “I’d love to do Strictly. The booker, she’s not having it!

“I don’t think anyone has done Dancing On Ice to Strictly, it has always been Strictly to Dancing On Ice. But they need to mix it up and get me on there.”
