Cher has encouraged all women to date younger men as the pop icon revealed there’s one thing that’s a deal breaker when it comes to romance and admitted she once turned down Elvis Presley.
The Believe singer, 77, recently opened up about her love life as she appeared on an episode of Chicken Shop Date, which sees host Amelia Dimoldenberg interviewing celebs during awkward dates at British fast-food joints. When asked what’s the one thing women should do at least once, the pop star didn’t hesitate as she quickly responded: “Go out with a younger man”.
It’s advice Cher has clearly followed herself as the Fernando singer has been publicly dating 37-year-old music producer Alexander Edwards since last November. She revealed she didn’t fall in love with her younger boyfriend quickly as she admitted he initially “pissed her off” when their romance started.

The Goddess of Pop recalled how she’d been busy in Switzerland when he texted her “get some rest babyyy” but she revealed the seemingly affectionate text left her furious. “I’m like he doesn’t know me well enough to put three y’s on baby, I was kind of pissed off and then he just started texting me,” she said.
Despite their 40-year age gap, Cher ended up going against her own advice to her friends when she eventually fell in love with him. She explained: “I told my friends ‘Don’t fall in love with a younger man, we’re too old, and don’t ever fall in love over text’ and there goes that theory.”
Opening up about the benefits that come with dating younger men, Cher admitted: “Older men just do not like me.” But she confessed being younger isn’t the only thing she looks for in a good partner as she revealed she’ll only ever date a good kisser.
“If they can’t kiss it’s over, I’m not kidding,” she said. She added: “Because you know if they can’t kiss, forget all the other stuff.” Dating younger men wasn’t the only aspect of her love life she opened up about.
“I haven’t had my heart broken very many times, almost none,” Cher said. Revealing how she’s managed to avoid heartbreak she added: “I’m cute.”
In fact, it seems Cher has actually been a bit of a heartbreaker herself as she admitted she once even turned down Elvis. Recalling why she batted off the King of Rock and Roll’s advance, Cher said: “I was frightened.”
Referring to her 1989 hit, the singer, who’s been married twice and has dated A-listers including Tom Cruise and Gene Simmons, revealed if she could truly turn back time she’d go back to one of the best periods of her love life. “I would go back to when I was 40, it was pretty good. I had fabulous boyfriends,” she said.
But while it’s clear she’s enjoyed many romances over the years Cher, who once compared men to a dessert because she feels they’re not a “necessity”, admitted she still feels the same way. “You can live without them, but it’s not as much fun,” she said.
