James Corden’s co-star and ‘kind soul’ dies after being thrown off bike in horror crash

A comedian who starred alongside James Corden on his US late night talk show has died after being thrown off his bike in a horror crash.

Kenny DeForest shot to fame performing stand-up on shows like The Late Show with James Corden and Late Night with Seth Meyers. But sadly on December 8th, he was hit by a car while cycling an e-bike in New York City.

In the days following the accident, he underwent surgery to combat a bleed on the brain. Surgeons removed a piece of his skull to relieve pressure on the brain, but sadly by December 13th he had lost his battle and sadly passed.

Fellow comic Ryan Beck set up a GoFundMe after his death, confirming: “Kenny died on Wednesday December 13th at Kings County Hospital surrounded by his parents, family, and friends. Kenny’s final moments included some of his favourite songs, stories of his childhood, and memories of his extensive positivity and joy for life.”

Kenny’s organs are set to be donated to “make meaningful improvements in the lives of others”, while a fundraiser has been set up to cover his extensive medical bill for his family. An initial target of $150,000 was smashed, with the pot already up to $178,496.

Tributes have been pouring in for the late star, with the official Seth Meyers show posting on X: “Kenny DeForest was a universally beloved comedian who died tragically, and much too young. His relaxed, confident delivery always stood out.

“As you can see from his debut late-night set on LNSM, he wasn’t afraid to tackle controversial topics, but never just to be edgy- always in service of an original angle and a great joke. It’s a shame we won’t get to see what he comes up with next.”

Other stand-up comedians also headed to social media to pay tribute, with Ian Fidence branding him the “kindest soul”, adding: “He was a friend to all and a solidly righteous dude.”

Los Angeles comic Atsuko Okatsuka wrote: “Kenny DeForest was always down to clown. A bright light. You’ll be missed.” While one fan wrote: “Man, Kenny DeForest passing has really made me & my wife just utterly devastated the last couple days.

“He did his yearly visit and shows in Springfield over Thanksgiving break and we saw him and talked to him briefly just 3 weeks ago. I cannot believe it. His set was so good too.”

It comes after Corden quit the US and headed back to the UK after “a couple of health things”. The star’s CBS show ended earlier this year, and he could no longer ignore the “signs” calling him back to his home country.

He explained: “There are people at home who are getting older. And we really felt that during Covid, there were a couple of health things that came along that made us just feel like… there were too many signs telling us to go home.”
