Dancing on Ice fans left divided as they say Stephen Mulhern ‘won’t last’ on show

Dancing on Ice viewers have been left unsure about new presenter Stephen Mulhern- with some predicting he won’t last long on the ITV show.

The long-running dance show kicked off with a brand new series on Sunday night (January 14) with Holly Willoughby and replacement host Stephen at the helm. Stephen, who is famous for presenting shows such as In For A Penny and Catchphrase, took over from original host Phillip Schofield after he decided to quit ITV for good last year.

But with the massive change looming over Holly and Stephen’s heads, the pair put on a confident display as they guided viewers through the programme. But fans at home weren’t too keen on 46-year-old Stephen and headed over to X, formerly known as Twitter to complain.

One spectator said: “I can’t see Stephen Mulhern coming back next series, actually I will be surprised to see him back next week, the partnership btw him & holly just hasn’t worked at all tonight, the judges were in form tonight though.”

Another wrote: “Holly is good but much better with Philip. Stephen is great but not as good as Philip. Sadly the show has lost something special.”

A third chimed: “Stephen Mulhern has been a disaster tonight, I had high hopes for him but he has made a mess of this show. Get rid of him straight away.”

While a fourth echoed: “Oh dear trying to make Stephen funny is cringe and Holly looks awkward. Stop trying so hard. Awful presenting tonight.”

But others completely disagreed as they felt Stephen was the best man for the job. Offering an opposing view, one fan of the show said: “Stephen is a perfect replacement & he’s having a great 1st episode just wish someone like Emma Willis or Josie Gibson would’ve replaced Holly.”

Another agreed: “Stephen and Holly have been amazing. Injected some real fun, weekend light entertainment vibes back into the show.”

Fans shared their opinions on the presenting duo online

And a third person wrote: “Holly is thriving without Pip Schofield. I feel like she’s able to have fun with Stephen and they just work together. She’s also given an opportunity to speak rather than being spoken over constantly like he used to do.”

This isn’t the first time Holly and Stephen have starred alongside each other. The pair first worked together on children’s TV show Ministry of Mayhem during the mid-noughties. The show was later titled Holly & Stephen’s Saturday Showdown.
