BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent was forced to tell her co-star Jon Kay off on Monday morning (February 5) after he was unable to contain his laughter as the pair introduced a guest.
After Carol Kirkwood closed her weather segment, the camera panned back to the studio, with 54-year old Jon clearly smirking as he glanced to his right. “Now he helped aspiring singers transform into their idols,” Sally began. “Don’t laugh – it’s true!” she continued, as Jon broke into laughter.
“He presented Stars In Their Eyes for more than a decade and since then Matthew Kelly has been acting on stage and screen.” TV veteran Matthew, 73, could then be seen laughing hysterically before giving Jon the ‘thumbs-up’ to indicate he was okay to continue, prompting Jon to laugh further. “I think we should tell them what you’re actually laughing at,” Sally added.

Matthew, who aptly used to present Game For A Laugh, duly apologised: “I’m so sorry. I’ve just seen the picture [behind Jon and Sally] of me and Denise Welch. Oh look at that one. I love that woman – she’s great.”
The black and white shot showed Matthew and Loose Women’s Denise beaming with joy, as Matthew told viewers they’re starring in a play together in Manchester, called The Gap. Denise previously appeared as guest on Matthew’s Stars In Their Eyes in the 1990s, as she performed as Petula Clark.
It comes a matter of days after Sally had to correct Morning Live presenter Gethin Jones on air, which prompted awkward feelings in the BBC studio. As Sally and Jon introduced Gethin and Helen Skelton via video link to discuss their show, Gethin appeared to be confused with Sally’s choice of words.
Sally said: “Now, it’s 25 past 8, Morning Live follows us on BBC One this morning. Let’s find out what they have in store today and it’s Helen and Gethin, morning!” Gethin sarcastically replied: “25 past 8 Sal, shall we do it now, shall we do the show now? We’ll do it half 9! We’ll tell you what’s coming up now and do the show at half 9.”
Seeing this take a slightly different turn, Helen tried to correct Gethin’s error too by stating that Sally mentioned the correct time. But after sharing what was coming up on their show, Gethin said: “See you at 9:30 Sal, not 25 past 8!”

Sally quickly replied: “No, I said it’s 25 past 8 now. I’m not sure you were listening?” Replying to her comment, Gethin joked: “I knew it would always be my fault in the end.” But Sally laughed the moment off and said she was deflecting.
