Good Morning Britain star told ‘get a new job’ by co-stars in brutal on-air jibe

Good Morning Britain presenter Laura Tobin has been told to “get a new job” on-air by her fellow co-stars.

Tobin, 46, appeared on the ITV show on Wednesday (March 6) to present the weather for the programme once again. She was joined on the show by regular anchors Susanna Reid and Richard Madeley, as well as newscaster Charlotte Hawkins.

As Charlotte, 48, ran through the headlines, one light-hearted story cropped up for the final news piece in the recap. Hawkins beamed with joy as she read out the story, which involved supermarket chain Aldi creating a new job.

“News of a job opportunity with a difference, the supermarket chain Aldi has begun the hunt for its next Chief Easter Egg Tasting Officer,” Charlotte said. “The candidate will be expected to taste the eggs, give reviews on the taste, texture and appearance on them.”

Hawkins did explain that while the job opportunity is open to anyone, the role was filled by an 11-year-old boy during last year’s Easter season, leading to some “stiff competition” for this year’s applications. It was here, however, that Charlotte decided to bring in weather presenter Laura in a brutal jab.

Charlotte quipped: “After being ruled out of the NASA New Astronaut job, I can tell you in some breaking news that Laura has been working on her application already.” She then turned her attention to Laura and asked how her research was going, much to Tobin’s surprise.

However, Laura was quick to jump on the bandwagon as she sat next to a large basket of Easter eggs. She hit back, answering Charlotte’s question: “Really well Charlotte; I think I genuinely have a good chance of getting this job!”

Tobin’s response triggered fits of laughter from her co-stars as she tried to take the joke on her chin. Lead presenter Richard Madeley added: “I love it, if you can’t be an astronaut, scoff your face with chocolate.”

It comes following Laura’s drive to be involved with space research. In the run-up to previous shows, Laura added that she had a particularly keen interest in all things space, quipping that she would love to be an astronaut.

During Tuesday’s episode of the show (March 5), Laura was watching live pictures of a space mission taking off from the Earth heading into space and beamed with joy as she showed viewers what was happening.

However, Laura briefly forgot where she was as she appeared to throw the role of weather presenter over to someone else. After a few seconds, however, she realised her mistake and exclaimed: “Oh that’s me!” before rushing to the screen where she went on to deliver her report.

Good Morning Britain airs every weekday at 6am on ITV1 and ITVX.
