In 2007, the most controversial moment of ever in the shows history left the nation furious as viewers watched Shilpa Shetty be abused by her co-stars. The late Jade Goody, her mum Jackiey Budden, glamour model Danielle Lloyd and S Club 7 star Jo O’Meara were all in the frame for their remarks and comments.

While the Bollywood star never formerly filed a complaint against anyone, the UK and India did so on her behalf. This after Ofcom were swarmed with over 45,000 complaints.

Viewers had witnessed Jade call her “Shilpa Poppadom”, Danielle fume that she should “go home” to India, and Jackiey did even have the good grace to learn the pronunciation of her name. Instead in her exit interview with host Davina McCall she referred to her her as “the Indian”.

Shilpa had the last laugh though as she went on to win the show with a whopping 82 percent of the vote. She was also backed up by officials who slapped Channel 4 with statuary sanctions for breaching the broadcasters code and they lost a number of huge sponsors over the ordeal too.

Christopher Biggins was taken off air after he’d reportedly made a number of comments that could have caused “wide spread offence”. This after he’d made one of his co-stars cry on the programme.

According to reports, the pantomime star cracked a joke about Nazi concentration camps to singer Katie Waissel, who was Jewish. She didn’t find it funny and actually burst into tears. Another remark that had been earmarked by Big Brother was Christopher blaming bisexual people for the mass spread of aids.

Viewers happened to be in Christophers camp believing that he hadn’t meant any offence, however Big Brother were not taking any chances and stepped in to deal with the situation.

At the time a CBB representative commented: “Since entering Big Brother, he has made a number of comments capable of causing great offence to housemates and the viewing public. Big Brother does not tolerate offensive language capable of causing widespread offence.”

Police caution

In 2015, the former Baywatch star was given the boot from the programme and met with police following his exit. He was issued a police caution for yanking open the dressing gown of glamour model Chloe Goodman when he was drunk.

He’s had too much to drink and went to the loo to throw up when Chloe followed him after she’d been worried for him. Shortly afterwards she was left sobbing over the ordeal.

Tiffany Pollard left viewers stunned in 2016 after she’d managed to convince her housemates that their fellow contestant David Gest had died. This after a miscommunication had happened.

Angie Bowie, a US reality star had been tearful as she chatted to Tiffany about her late husband David Bowie – who had passed away from cancer before she entered the house. Crying, Angie said: “David’s dead”.

Connecting the wrong dots, Tiffany assumed Angie had been sobbing her heart out over their co-star David Guest as she hysterically went to inform everyone else. Fortunately, they were able to check on David and realised he was still alive.

However, just three months after exiting the villa, David did actually die. He was found dead in the Four Seasons hotel, London, after suffering a stroke.

Cat impersonation

George took to his hands and knees to pur like a cat

One of the most toes curling moments in the shows history ever was when former politician George Galloway took to his knees pretending to be a cat on Celebrity Big brother in 2006. He was branded a “laughing stock” as he pretended to lick cream from his ‘paws’ while purring away like a happy kitty.

The ex Labour MP is seen nibbling from actress Rula Lenska’s hands as she scratches behind his ears for the TV cameras. The odd role play which was for a task began with Mr Galloway asking: “Now would you like me to be the cat?”

Kim who formed one half of the cleaning duo with Aggie, was removed from the premises after she verbally attacked Jamie O’Hara and former glamour model Nicola McLean. She furiously shouted at the footballer that he was an “adulterer” and told other co-stars that they were nothing but “chinless wonders”.

One scandal that still rocks the nation to this very day in the “punch” scandal that hit screens in 2018. Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas had been accused of hurting his housemate Roxanne Pallett.

The Emmerdale actress claimed he’d “punched” her as she took to the diary room in tears over the ordeal. Viewers couldn’t believe what they were witnessing as they defended Ryan for just play-fighting.

Following her exit and widespread outrage over the incident, Roxanne was forced to apologise. She admitted she’d made “a massive mistake” and now feared she was “the most hated girl in Britain”.

Ryan was reduced to tears over Roxanne claims after he was approached by Big Brother but he went on to have the last laugh after he won the series. 11,000 complaints were also filed to Ofcom over Roxanne’s behaviour too.
