Gary Goldsmith fumes he’s not a ‘serial wife beater’ after GMB host grills him on past

Good Morning Britain hosts question Celebrity Big Brother star Gary Goldsmith on assault allegations.

The 59-year-old appeared on the flagship programme following his brief stint on CBB. Gary became the first contestant to leave the famous house on Friday night (March 8) after Sharon Osbourne put him up for eviction during her secret task.

But while appearing on GMB, presenters Susanna Reid and Ed Balls asked Gary the real reason why he decided to appear on the reality TV show. Given his tempestuous past, following allegations that Gary assaulted his ex-wife, the presenters were keen to discuss this aspect too.

Explaining that he came on the show to change the nation’s perception of him, Ed went on to ask Gary, who is Kate Middleton’s uncle, some hard questions. Ed said: “You said in the opening video when you went into Big Brother that ‘I’m an absolute nightmare to live with, there’s a reason I’ve had four wives.’

“I mean is the reason that you beat a wife up. Or is there another reason for that?”

Shocked by Ed’s question, Gary replied: “Wow Ed! No. There was one thing that happened seven years ago, I’m not a serial wife beater.”

Ex Labour politician Ed continued in his line of questioning. He then asked: “So what was the reason you was referring to?”

Gary said: “I’m slightly selfish. I’m a workaholic, I work seven days a week and I still do. I generally put work first,” he added.

Susanna then asked Gary if he thought it was a good thing to appear in the Celebrity Big Brother house and whether this would lead to more reality TV appearances. But Gary confessed that he’s “not interested” in show business but wanted people to see him for who he is.

But as fans watched the awkward exchange, they had plenty to say on the matter. Heading over to X formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “This is just embarrassing.”

Another penned: “Oh, dear, dear, dear, dear, dear dear,… I’m hiding behind a pillow listening to this.” While a third said: “Jesus, @edballs gone in hard with Gary Goldsmith.”

During the chat, Gary also spoke about his niece Kate and revealed that they hadn’t spoken in over a year. He said: “I haven’t spoke to Kate for ages.

“Maybe a year. It’s for funerals mainly. I speak [more often] to Pippa and more so James and my sister.”
