Home and Away star breaks silence on soap return as he shares biggest struggle

Matt Little discussed his “emotional” return to Home and Away.

It was recently announced that the actor would be reprising his role as VJ Patterson, the son of long-running character Leah Patterson (Ada Nicodemou). VJ’s return to Summer Bay was confirmed in a promotional video on Leah and Justin’s (James Stewart) upcoming wedding.

The 31-year-old discussed his soap comeback with Perth Now, admitting he loved reuniting with his former co-stars. He said: “It was amazing [working with] long time friends and it was really quite emotional to get to work with people that I haven’t worked with in a long time and I was close to.”

Matt confessed that the thing he struggled with the most was trying not to spoil any details about Leah and Justin’s big day for viewers. “Don’t say anything on social media,” he was told by bosses.

The last time fans saw VJ was in 2017. He was forced to flee Australia to keep his daughter, Luc, away from her biological father.

Luc was the daughter of VJ’s former wife Billie Ashford (Tessa de Josselin), who died from lung cancer after being given just days to live. VJ raised Luc as his own, keeping her far away from Mick (Kristian Schmid), who raped Billie.

VJ isn’t the only character returning as Penny McNamee is reprising her role as Tori Morgan. Tori arrived in Summer Bay alongside her brother Justin and their two other siblings in 2016. The doctor bid farewell to Summer Bay in 2021 with her husband Christian Green (Ditch Davey) and her daughter Grace.

In the promo, VJ can be seen walking his mum down the aisle. Meanwhile Tori is spotted throwing confetti as Justin and Leah walk back down the aisle after exchanging their vows. UK viewers will have to wait a little longer before Justin and Leah tie the knot, however, it will be a sigh of relief as the couple have been through a difficult period over the last few months.

After being kidnapped and left for dead by the cult Vita Nova, Leah struggled to overcome the traumatic ordeal. Plagued with nightmares, she began to lose her grip on reality and was convinced that Justin was working with the cult.

After threatening her fiancé with a knife, she checked herself into a mental institution. The couple are attempting to rebuild their relationship following Leah’s return to Summer Bay, but they still have a long way to go.
